Associate Director, Communications
Temporary Full-Time
35 Hours per Week

Reporting to the Chief, Communications & Brand, the Associate Director, Communications will be responsible for developing and leading the implementation and management of external and internal communications strategies that position, promote and build the public profile of the Gallery. This is not a marketing or advertising role, as the position oversees several functions involving earned and owned media but does not have direct oversight of paid media. Primarily responsible for local, national and international media relations, internal communications, issues management and the weekly AGOinsider, the successful candidate will create narratives that reflect the AGO’s mission and strategic priorities. He/she/they will also work closely with the Communications & Brand teams (Marketing & Design, Digital, Visitor Services, Government Relations and Membership & Database Marketing) and with colleagues across the Gallery to increase public interest and engagement with the AGO’s programs and services. 

Requirements:

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations combined with a minimum 7-10 years directly related experience in communications and media relations 
• Demonstrated experience managing and motivating staff and projects
• Well-developed organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills
• Advanced communication skills (verbal and written) including presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability in crisis communication and issues management
• Knowledge of applicable computer programs i.e. Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of all social media platforms, best practices, industry standards
• Familiarity with tracking softwares for traditional and social media coverage such as Meltwater, Hootsuite, Critical Mention, Sprout Social, True Social
• Knowledge and familiarity with industry standard measurement systems such as Media Relations Points (MRP) and Ad Value Equivalency (AVE)
• Experience developing and managing budgets
• Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure
• Strong relationship skills that can be leveraged with high level media contacts when required
• Media training and experience talking in front of a camera an asset.
