The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) is a charitable organization whose mission is to invest in and inspire the next generation of world-class Canadian content creators and entrepreneurs in the screen-based entertainment industry. A significant economic and cultural driver in Canada and beyond, CFC delivers a range of multi-disciplinary programs and initiatives in film, television, music, screen acting, and digital media, which provides industry collaborations, strategic partnerships, and business and marketplace opportunities for talent and participants.

With 100+ participants in more than a dozen programs each year, our mandate is to promote and invest in original projects, encourage commercial opportunities and build collaborative relationships between our alumni and media companies. Our 1,600+ alumni and more than 100 alumni partner companies create and produce popular, award-winning entertainment enjoyed by audiences around the world.

Founded by iconic and award-winning Canadian filmmaker Norman Jewison as a film school in 1988, we have become an essential hub for ideas and innovation within the global entertainment sphere.



Job Description

Calling all Volunteers!
 
On Thursday, February 15, 2018, CFC will celebrate its Annual Gala & Auction!
 
The CFC’s Annual Gala & Auction is our largest fundraising event, held this year at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Toronto. The 2018 gala will celebrate CFC’s 30th anniversary and pay tribute to 30 years of excellence in storytelling, of inspiring Canadian content creators and of empowering emerging talent.
 
We sincerely hope that you will support the CFC as we continue to invest in and inspire the next generation of world-class filmmakers, TV writers, actors, composers, songwriters and digital media entrepreneurs.  Year after year, this exciting event is a fantastic success thanks to the commitment, dedication, and exceptional work of volunteers like you!

Volunteer Requirements
Be 18 years of age or older (unless volunteering for event set-up/take down only; please let us know if you are under 18)
Submit the online Volunteer Application Form, and send along a current resume in an email by January 17th, 2018
 
Volunteer Role Descriptions

(Roles may vary slightly leading up to the Gala)
Volunteer positions are assigned based on volunteer experience, particularly at CFC events, and the answers to the questions in the Volunteer Application Form. We will try our absolute best to place our volunteers in the role most suited to their skillset, so please review the role descriptions thoroughly. Please note that despite our efforts to accommodate your preferences, we would appreciate your flexibility on the day of the event, as you may in some circumstances be asked to take on other roles during your shift. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about volunteering at the gala.
 
 1. Set-Up/Tear-Down Crew
Set-up/Tear-Down of event props, exhibits, signage, etc. before or after the event
Must be comfortable carrying moderately heavy items
Great if you would like to get in some exercise while supporting the CFC!
 
2. Guest Check-In and Live-Auction Support (NOTE: This role includes multiple positions)
                Guest Check-In
Sign-in guests in the Ritz-Carlton Lobby, assign table numbers
Reception experience is preferred
Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
Live Auction
Acting as eyes of the auctioneer, scanning room for bidders
Must remain alert, focused and in position for the duration of the live auction (20 minutes)
Must be comfortable standing and walking for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
 
3. Greeter, Table Ushers, General Support, Live-Auction Support (NOTE: This role includes multiple positions)
Greeter
For volunteers who are warm and welcoming
Approach and welcome guests, direct them to coat check, washrooms, etc.
Must be comfortable standing and walking for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
Table Usher
Approach guests and help direct them to their table
Must be comfortable standing and walking for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
General Support
A flexible helper, ready to jump into action wherever assistance is needed!
May involve any of the roles outlined here
Live Auction
Acting as eyes of the auctioneer, scanning room for bidders
Must remain alert, focused and in position for the duration of the live auction (20 minutes)
Must be comfortable standing and walking for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
 
      4. Raffle Sales
For volunteers who are extroverted and energetic
In teams of two, approach and encourage guests to purchase raffle tickets
Charm and sociability is an asset, as these raffle sales are a key part of the CFC’s fundraising efforts
Must be comfortable standing and walking for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
 
6. Silent Auction Support
                                       
                                                                                             
For volunteers who are outgoing and friendly
Appear approachable and friendly while monitoring the silent auction items and bid sheets
 Ensure bidders are filling out bid sheets accurately, encouraging guests to make a bid
If you have sales and/or customer service experience, your skillset will be appreciated here
Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
