TIFF, a vibrant not-for-profit arts organization, is hiring for the position of:

COORDINATOR, COMMUNICATIONS

TIFF is seeking a Communications Coordinator who is responsible for coordinating the research, planning and activation pertaining to media coverage and developing and managing relationships that help TIFF secure earned media through unique stories that highlight our mission and our year-round programming and initiatives. Working alongside content and marketing departments, the communications coordinator will synthesize data, prepare pitch material, initiate outreach and will support partnerships and relationships that help TIFF generate in-kind revenue and opportunities to amplify original content that marries with TIFF’s mission of transforming the way people see the world through film. Creative thinking and a collaborative attitude are key character traits of the person who will take on this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and support news/media relations activities and proactive campaigns
  • Stay on-top of social media trends and storytelling tactics
  • Develop relationships with media and influencers
  • Act as liaison to validate how brand voice and visual story is communicated across channels; ensuring consistency and factual data
  • Research trends, key audience interests and passion points to inform story angles
  • Generate media monitoring reports as needed - general and specific to activities and PR campaigns
  • Manage budget transactions in centralized budget document
  • Leverage the media, including print, radio, television, online and influencers to reach a wide range of audiences to secure coverage for the Toronto International Film Festival, Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival, In Conversation With… , Exhibitions, TIFF Shop, TIFF Cinematheque, Youth Learning: TIFF Kids Festival, digiPlayspace, TIFF Next Wave Film Festival, TIFF Learning (Camps, School Programmes), etc
  • Support Communications Manager on crisis management programs and serve as research and reporting support for team
  • Create content as required; written, motion graphics, infographics, etc
  • Gather materials and data for the production of annual reports, performance reports, media industry reporting, etc
  • Supervise and mentor communications assistant and intern(s)


Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or a combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two years experience in communications and public relations; preferably in an agency environment working on entertainment clients
  • Fluent in English, oral and written; knowledge of another language a great asset
  • Superior storyteller (both written and verbal) with a clear and concise style
  • Excellent capacity to refine information in order to reveal an insight
  • Ability to work and inspire others to craft simple, clear and inspirational campaign ideas and media engagement plans
  • Exposure to technological, cultural and media trend forecasting and best practices
  • Deep knowledge of cultural and human trends
  • Strong contributor to the creative development process
  • Strong positive attitude and ability to quickly build tight-knit relationships
  • You are able to work within a dynamic environment and balance multiple priorities
  • Collaborative with the ability to build on ideas
  • Highly motivated, adaptable and open
  • Proficiency in Office Suite, Google Docs. Knowledge of Slack messaging platform, Trello and MailChimp an advantage
  • Experience working with media intelligence and monitoring platforms; knowledge of Meltwater an asset
  • Curiousity, passion and knowledge of the film and entertainment industries

Ability to work flexible hours as required, including some evenings and weekends
