Organizational Overview

Pride Toronto is a not-for-profit organization that presents Pride Week, a week-long arts and cultural festival celebrating Toronto’s *LGBTTIQQ2SA communities. The festival is produced by 26 year-round volunteer committees, each producing a specific aspect of the festival, and 10 full time staff who manage the organization and direct and support the activities of the committees.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Marches and Parades Project Planner is responsible for overseeing the Trans March, Dyke March and Pride Parade.
This will include;
• Managing 3 volunteer committees (Trans March, Dyke March and Parade)
• Corresponding with March and Parade applicants and responding to questions in a timely fashion
• Confirming accuracy of reported applicant categories on applications
• Developing a March and Parade information package, regarding float and marcher assembly areas
• Liaising with various suppliers (Electrical, A/V, Water, Ice, etc…) regarding volunteer and participant needs
• Recruit new participants and help existing participants increase the fabulousness of their floats and marching contingents
• Develop a March and Parade terms and conditions document
• Assign line ups for Marches and Parade
• Create a supplier contact list for participants for sourcing supplies

Key Responsibilities
• Recruit and manage all volunteer committees that report to the Marches and Parade Project Planner
• Attend monthly volunteer planning meetings
• Remain onsite for the duration of the Pride Weekend Festival
• Perform debrief meetings with all volunteer coordinators who fall into this portfolio and disseminate the findings to the Director of Operations
• Hold regular meetings with relevant committees throughout the month

Requirements

Requirements

• Experience managing Marches or Parades
• Outdoor Festival experience Preferred
• Ability to be extremely detail oriented but with consistent reference to the ‘big picture’.
• Excellent planning, organizational and problem solving skills
• Excellent people management skills, with demonstrated experience managing, coordinating and providing support to large working teams.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
• Excellent mediation/mentoring, team building and negotiation skills
• Excellent organizational, prioritization and multitasking skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and week-ends
• Ability to manage multiple projects; independently and as part of a team.
• Experience and knowledge of Toronto’s LGBTTIQQ2SA communities a strong asset
• Not-for profit experience an asset
• Must enjoy working with people and managing multiple demands from a large team of volunteers

Pride Week is organized annually to inspire individual courage, empower marginalized groups, promote diversity, and highlight the strength of numbers and power in unified voices. These goals are accomplished via a community-based arts and cultural festival; which is entirely inclusive and open to all. Pride Toronto strives to grow its non-profit organization by developing and nurturing community partners, continually undertaking new initiatives, and leaving a distinguishable annual footprint as one of the World’s largest Pride Festivals.
