Job Description

Newchoir, Toronto’s largest community rock and roll choir, is seeking a Musical Director to fill an immediate vacancy for the rest of their spring 2010 season.

The successful candidate will be considered for a permanent contract position, starting September 2010.

Newchoir is a non-auditioned, 130-member choir that performs classic and new rock in four-part harmony. We are a registered non-profit with charitable tax status, and have had nine successful seasons. We are working towards a performance at Ryerson Theatre on May 1st 2010.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be able to lead over a hundred adults with a diverse range of vocal talents ranging from amateur to aspiring professional. Specific responsibilities:

-lead small group and full choir rehearsals from 6:30-9:30 PM every Tuesday through May 1st at Eastminster United Church on Danforth Ave.

-lead at least one sectional rehearsal for each of the alto, soprano, tenor and bass sections – at a time to be arranged.

-rehearse the Newchoir band prior to our concert

-produce and conduct our 90 minute show on May 1st with the assistance of a professional technical producer and choir volunteers.

-leadership: we need an enthusiastic and high energy leader with both vocal teaching skills and a passion for rock and pop repertoire.

We are a registered non-profit organization with charitable tax status, and rehearse every Tuesday evening from 7:30-9:30 at Eastminster United Church on Danforth Avenue. We are open to singers of all vocal ability levels from amateur to aspiring professional, and require no auditions.
