Volunteer Committee Member Description
CreativeHub 1352 is a non-profit, charitable, community-driven organization which exists for the advancement of community cultural development through the arts, heritage, and environmental sciences.
CreativeHub 1352 is one of many groups vital to the reuse of the Small Arms Inspection Building, a historically significant site, owned and operated by the City of Mississauga. As a community programming partner, we deliver a mix of programs, projects, education, and events that foster collaboration, engage the community, and enrich people's lives. All proceeds are reinvested to support community arts, heritage and environmental programs.
The vision of the Lakeview Farmers’ Market is to enrich lives by providing access to locally grown and sourced healthy food, organic and artisanal products and to provide an income opportunity for local farmers, producers and artisans. The Market, now in its fourth year, operates at the historical Small Arms Inspection Building, located at 1352 Lakeshore Road East in Mississauga on Sundays from May 28th to October 29th, 2023.
Role of the Lakeview Farmers' Market Volunteer Committee Member:
Lakeview Farmers' Market Committee Members work with the Farmers' Market Committee and Market Manager to support and advise on various organizational, administrative, and promotional tasks, as well as being present at the weekly markets. We are seeking individuals with a wide range of skills in various areas such as marketing, business, financial, organizational, event planning, education, and agricultural/farming knowledge to help with a broad spectrum of committee activities.
On Market days, Volunteer Committee Members assist the Market Manager and volunteers in overseeing set-up and tear-down, putting up temporary signage around the building, being available to assist vendors and customers, trouble shooting (should any issues arise), and tracking vendor and customer attendance. Volunteers contemplating a career in event planning, logistics, or the food (fresh produce) industry will benefit by joining our planning team.
The position:
- Network' with staff, volunteers, and the public (expand your 'connectivity' in the Mississauga community)
- Knowledge of/willingness to learn various rules and regulations affecting farmers' markets and sales of food
- Co-operative nature and ability to work with other committee members, the Market vendors and the public
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Skills and experience in one or more areas is welcome: event planning and logistics, marketing and communications, business, finance, community programming, agriculture/farming, and more
- Computer skills (Excel, Google Drive, social media) are helpful in the areas of Market promotion, vendor tracking/billing, etc.
Hours: The Lakeview Farmers' Market Committee meets bi-weekly on Tuesdays via ZOOM for one hour. Committee Members are expected to attend 1-2 farmers' markets per month (held Sundays in Mississauga from 7am-3pm). The schedule is flexible.
