Working in Culture: Accessibility and Employment in Arts and Culture

WorkInCulture is a non-profit organization with a mission is to support the people working in the cultural sector through life-long career development, business skills training, and resources.As an educational partner, WorkInCulture is thrilled to contribute to the ReelAbilities Film Festival by exploring opportunities and employment in the arts in two panels on Monday May 16, 3 – 5 PM.

This two-panel session, moderated by WorkInCulture, will address the following:

Panel 1:  Our first panel will feature three artists/arts administrators with disabilities or Deaf, who will talk about what they have learned, how they work, and the skills, attributes, and support needed to forge a successful career in arts and culture.

Our featured panelists will be Catherine Joell MacKinnon, Syrus Marcus Ware, and Mark Brose

Panel 2: Our second panel will feature representatives from three longstanding organizations that have dedicated programs to help aspiring, emerging, and professional artists with disabilities and Deaf artists. These representatives will speak to the range and goals of their programs.

Our featured panelists will be Eliza Chandler (Tangled Arts), Danica Brown (Workman Arts), and Bushra Junaid (Ontario Arts Council).

WorkInCulture would like to thank Deaf Spectrum for producing a closed captioned and ASL translated video of our event info so that we can allow for greater accessibility to our announcement. 

Deaf Spectrum aims to create greater accessibility for local Deaf communities in the Greater Toronto Area by providing services in American Sign Language. More information and examples of their services can be be found on their YouTube Channel.
