Fall for Dance North Inc.

Fall for Dance North (FFDN) is Toronto’s premier international dance festival and an Ontario non-profit registered charity.  FFDN’s sixth season will run from October 1-10, 2020. Ticketed performances will be held at MERIDIAN HALL and the Ryerson Theatre. Free programming will also be held at Toronto’s Union Station during this time frame. Additional festival activities will take place in various venues throughout the city of Toronto, including our signature Open Studio in Union Station’s West Wing, monthly from Mar.-May, 2020.  Our festival’s vibrant and growing team is eager to work with the next generation of arts workers.​

FFDN’s mission is to elevate the popularity of dance by presenting a diverse, world-class dance festival of established and emerging talent from Toronto, Canada and around the globe through accessible ticket prices. FFDN aims to support Canada’s professional dance community, create an inclusive atmosphere and inspire and educate new audiences and seasoned dance patrons.​

Job Description

The Communications Associate (full-time, 8 month employment contract) will work with FFDN’s Director of Development and Marketing Manager to create and deploy marketing and fundraising related communications with an eye for audience and donor development. This function will provide the successful candidate with many opportunities to communicate directly with external stakeholders, for example FFDN’s Patrons’ Circle members, local businesses, peer dance/arts organisations, audience members via online tools and more. This position will require the successful candidate to exercise their excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, contributing to the smooth operation of the sixth edition of FFDN.


  • Support FFDN’s Director of Development with donor relations, including phone and email correspondence, year-round and at festival time
  • Manage online database system (CiviCRM), especially donor and prospective donor contacts
  • Extract donor reports from database
  • Research potential funders - foundations and corporations
  • Assist with final reports to funders
  • Create forms and surveys for development and board activities
  • Provide  on-site, off-site  and administrative support for quarterly fundraising event series
  • Work with FFDN’s Director of Development and Ticketing Coordinator to track all VIP/donor group ticketing orders
  • Attend and document Patron Circle Committee meetings


  • Under the supervision of the Marketing Manager, manage as well as create and deploy content for all FFDN social media platforms, including; facebook, twitter, instagram, and youtube.
  • Support FFDN’s Marketing Manager with website content management, using Wix online web editor 
  • Perform image editing and resizing tasks
  • Manage, prepare and deploy audience discount program by developing partnerships with local businesses (restaurants, shops, etc.).
  • Create written content for FFDN’s exclusive monthly e-newsletter, FOXTROT
  • Manage the sale of advertising space in FFDN’s 52-pg full colour program magazine.
  • Support FFDN’s Marketing Manager with asset and file management

Development and Marketing Crossovers

  • Perform all duties with an eye for consistency in communications between public facing and donor/private/corporate facing language
  • Other duties that may arise from time to time within Development and Marketing


  • Post secondary education in communications, arts administration, fundraising or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 year working experience in the arts, culture or equivalent sector 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with and passion for the performing arts
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft office suite, Google drive and cloud based file sharing applications
  • Experience with database management, CiviCRM experience a plus
  • Customer service experience, especially in a sales oriented capacity, highly appreciated
  • Knowledge of Toronto downtown core is an asset
  • Experience using online website editors
  • Very well organized and detail oriented, with ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude and adaptable personality - ability to problem solve, embrace ​flexibility ​and ​versatility, ​while ​working ​in ​a high-paced, evolving environment.

Additional Info:

Full-time employment contract for 8 months (April - November 2020), with possibility of extension. Ideal start date is April 6, 2020. Festival dates (October 1-10, inclusive) will be extended days and evening/weekend work is required. Prior to the festival, some evening and/or weekend work will be required. Work can be done remotely and on site.

Payment for 8 month period is approx. $24,000 gross. Salaray range noted at the top of this listing is based on full year employment. Perks include:​
