Job Description

Communications Intern
 
Reporting to the Communications Manager, TIFF is seeking  a Communications Intern to work in a fast-paced environment, assisting in media relations and publicity efforts to promote the Toronto International Film Festival and TIFF Bell Lightbox year-round programming. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a specific interest in media relations and communications. Creative thinking, strong attention to detail and adaptability are key character traits of the person who will take on this role. This internship is an ideal opportunity for a student or recent graduate of a public relations or corporate communications degree, diploma or certificate programme or an applicant with related experience in this field.
This is a paid internship.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shall include but not be limited to-
• Assist with the daily function of the TIFF Press Office, supporting the department with various administrative tasks
Collect and distribute press clippings
• Answer the main Press Office telephone line and respond to email inquiries
• Maintain accurate database records
• Research, edit, draft and disseminate publicity materials
• Communicate with media in a respectful and courteous manner
• Conduct research on communications-related matters, as required
• Work closely with team members to complete time-sensitive tasks
• Assist with coordination and on-site execution of various events
 

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Superior oral and written communication skills (writing samples may be requested)
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Keen attention to detail and takes initiative
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and works well in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well individually and with a team
  • Excellent phone manner
  • High computer proficiency (Microsoft Office experience preferred, knowledge of Gmail, experience working in databases and knowledge of MailChimp, Meltwater and Infomart as asset)
  • Familiarity with TIFF and its activities
  • An interest and passion for film is an asset
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends
