The Canadian Academy seeks a Design Assistant (20-week contract)

 

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is the largest non-profit media membership organization in Canada. We are dedicated to recognizing, advocating for and celebrating Canadian talent in the film, television, and digital media sectors. Our more than 4,000 members encompass industry icons and professionals, emerging artists and students. The Canadian Academy is seeking a contract Design Assistant with superb design and execution skills who will be responsible for creating a wide variety of materials for Canadian Screen Week and Prism Prize across various platforms such as traditional graphic design, web and social media assets, and digital materials. Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications, this position ensures that all materials are developed in accordance with brand guidelines, and requires an individual with a keen attention to detail who works well under pressure, is able to manage and set priorities, and can meet tight deadlines.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain design standards for the Academy, Canadian Screen Week, and the Prism Prize
  • Graphic creation for: Assets for Academy website, social media accounts, Canadian Screen Awards program book, screens, and sponsor reels, Canadian Screen Week assets, Prism Prize virtual presentation, eBlasts, digital and commercial materials, newsletters, ads, and print collateral
  • Light video creation for: Canadian Screen Award sponsor reels and various social assets
  • Fulfillment and management of creative briefs
  • Liaise with internal and external contacts for creative collaboration and to determine specs and requirements for all collateral


Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a recognized design program
  • Minimum one year in the fields of graphic and digital design
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive Suite, Asana
  • Experience in video editing and knowledge of After Effects and Premiere Pro an asset
  • Experience creating materials for a wide variety of platforms
  • Experience working on large teams to bring complicated projects to completion
  • Strong interest in the Canadian media industry
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Bilingualism an asset

START DATE: January 10, 2022
Office hours are Mondays to Fridays, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A minimum commitment of 40 hours/week is required Evening work will be required for special events throughout the year and during Canadian Screen Week. On-call or emergency work for social media may be required from time to time.

SALARY: $830/Week; successful candidate must also supply own computer and related hardware.

During this time, Canadian Academy staff members are operating in a hybrid work environment, both remotely and with the option to work full-time or part-time from our offices. Operating at 50% capacity, select employees are required to visit the office a minimum of one day a week on a pre-scheduled day, and to attend in-person events should it be required. Employees who are not fully vaccinated will be required to show a negative Covid test taken within the last 72 hours before entering the office. This policy will be reassessed and updated as new information becomes available through Public Health, the Ontario government, and the legal system.
