The York Region Arts Council (YRAC) is the only York Region-wide not-for-profit charitable arts and tourism service organization focused on capacity building, creative placemaking and community engagement.
Since 2002, YRAC has played a pivotal role in shaping a conversation around arts and tourism in the region.

Our work supports the development of artists, arts organizations, creative entrepreneurs. Working collaboratively with over 100 stakeholders and industry partners on an annual basis, our services directly impact over 500 artists and creative organizations.
Our regional tourism portfolio, Experience York Region (XYR), is supporting the development of local businesses, attractions and other tourism focused stakeholders, groups and organizations. 

York Region Arts Council and Experience York Region reach over 1,000,000 individuals annually.
We are a customer service provider – to the Regional Municipality of York, each of the nine municipalities that reside in the Region, arts organizations, artists, tourism businesses, and the community at-large. 


Job Description

This is a transformative time for the organization, and for the arts, tourism and creative industries of York Region. Guided by our recently developed 5 year strategic plan 2020-2024, York Region Arts Council is set to redefine the arts, cultural and tourism sectors in York Region.
Development and Outreach Manager will lead the development and implementation of YRAC’s revenue strategy, collaborating with the board and staff to increase annual philanthropic support from individuals, sponsors, foundations, and government agencies while also focusing to support future and planned programming initiatives through outreach and partnership development.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the role will also work closely with the Fundraising Committee.
This is an excellent role to bring new ideas, to explore unknown opportunities, to work collaboratively with key industry stakeholders, and to support the arts movement by bringing it to the forefront of everyday life experiences. Your passion alongside your set of skills in fund development, partnerships and community building, sponsor and stakeholder relations, will bring the right balance to support and expand YRAC’s vision and mission.

Requirements:

Purpose of the role
  • Create and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fund development including: grant writing including all three levels of government, corporate, and foundations
  • Research and write grant proposals on municipal, provincial, and federal levels of government, as well as and grant applications coming from corporations and foundations.
  • Providing evaluation and project reports as required by granting bodies and partners.
  • Work with the Executive Director to maintain and grow current relationships, as well as develop new partnerships.
  • Develop and implement the annual giving plan including cultivating and maintaining relationships with new and existing members, donors and supporters, developing the Major Gifts Program, and managing our membership program.
  • Support the development of new programs and services initiatives, through the partnership and fundraising lens.


Core Roles & Responsibilities

● Develop, implement, and maintain an overall strategy for fundraising and growth for the Council,
maximizing revenue for current programs and events and develop and implement new revenue streams
including but not limited to corporate support, foundation and government support, major gifts, and
online campaigns
● Develop, direct, and implement a regional strategy to identify and cultivate new and diversified
prospects leading to financial support
● Cultivate a network of high net worth individuals to support the Council’s mandate
● Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and implement an online fundraising
strategy
● Establish and maintain plans for short-term and long-term growth, ensuring the Council’s delivers on its
mandate to support ongoing and new programs and services initiatives
● Set up appropriate monitoring mechanisms that ensure continued success and effectiveness of
programs, providing reports to the key stakeholders
● Other duties as assigned


Required Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

● A strong track record with 5+ years of progressive and equivalent fundraising experience within a
not-for-profit, arts and culture, and/or tourism organization.
● Knowledge and experience in the not-for-profit/arts charity sector with planned giving, major gifts,
corporate and foundation support, direct marketing, sponsorship, and marketing principles and practices
● Proven successful experience in cultivating corporate support and major gifts
● Demonstrates creativity in fundraising techniques, including social media strategies and online
campaigns
● Possess effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills


Abilities and Attributes
● A self-starter and a results-driven individual who is focused and motivated to meet/exceed financial targets
● Able to handle multiple initiatives and meet deadlines
● Have a high emotional intelligence supported by strong communication and relationship management abilities
● Highly reliable with the capacity to work on own initiative
● Accurate and detail-oriented
● Demonstrate strong presentation and negotiation skills; capable of networking, building partnerships, and
closing a deal
● A knowledge and interest of arts related, not-profit organization model, and/or tourism sector, is an asset.
● Access to a vehicle and ability to drive/travel across the York Region and GTA
● Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends
● Ability to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines
