Job Description

DigitalASO Regional Alliance Coordinators are a new addition to ArtsPond’s research and outreach team, reporting to National Alliance Manager, DigitalASO and ArtsPond’s President / CEO.

There are six positions available representing six primary regions of Canada, including:
  • Atlantic Canada: Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia
  • Québec
  • Ontario (except Northwestern)
  • Central Canada/Prairies: Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan
  • Western Canada: Alberta, British Columbia
  • Northern Canada: Yukon and Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik, Labrador.
Incubated by ArtsPond, DigitalASO is a strategic initiative empowering the digital transformation of Canadian arts services through digital literacy research, training, platform- and alliance-building. Phase 1 activities from 2017 to 2019 featured the national Managing Creativity in a Digital World Survey 2017, two editions of Digital Arts Services Symposium 2017 and 2019 in Toronto and Ottawa, DigitalGO podcast, and more.

As a part of DigitalASO’s Phase 2 activities from March 2020 to December 2021, Regional Alliance Coordinators are tasked with supporting the scoping and launch of a national Digital Arts Services Alliance / Alliance des services d’arts numériques (DASA/ASAN).

The goals of DASA/ASAN are to help foster a National Innovation Ecosystem for shared digital transformation of Canadian arts, culture, and arts services in response to collectively identified systemic issues. Featuring strategic research, networking, and literacy-building actions with regional and national stakeholders onsite and online, this transformative collective governance effort will identify and strengthen regional advantages, national champions, cross-disciplinary institutions, shared digital resources and human-cloud infrastructure to help collectively bolster digital justice for all in Canadian arts and culture.

In collaboration with DigitalASO Backbone Leads (Arts, Technology), National Alliance Manager, National Alliance Coordinator, and other Regional Alliance Coordinators (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Central/Prairies, Western , Northern Canada), the responsibilities include:

RESEARCH AND EVALUATION (35%)
  • Support the research and design of shared regional and national strategies for digital transformation of the arts, culture, and arts services
  • Explore, define, and cultivate awareness of issues of regional interest to be shared at national meetings
  • Support the design and implementation of regional and national applied and action-oriented research activities including stakeholder surveys, interviews, documentation and reporting of results from online and onsite meetings, and other related activities
  • Carefully manage regional expectations, celebrate successes, document and learn from project experiences to help continuously improve the impact of project activities
  • Support the design of a public report summarizing collective insights and recommendations at the conclusion of public consultations in Summer 2021
  • Suggested research themes are flexible to regional interests, but may include advancing digital literacy, discoverability of artists, shared human-technology resources and infrastructure, digital and data justice, new business models, open source platforms, ethics of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure for rural and remote regions, digital solutions to Indigenous reconciliation, income precarity, and other systemic issues.
OUTREACH (35%)
  • Be a positive ambassador and promote brand awareness and engagement in a professional manner
  • Identify, engage, and sustain strong relationships with regional and national champions, advisors, participants, members, partners, sponsors, guest speakers, convening venue hosts and other supporting services and agencies
  • Cultivate multi-stakeholder relationships between the arts, business, technology, non-profit, government, post-secondary institutions, researchers, funders, sponsors, equity-seeking groups, impacted persons, and other priority groups as appropriate
  • Prioritize outreach to impacted persons and equity-seeking groups from diverse backgrounds in arts and culture including New Canadians, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, Black, Brown and other people of colour, people with disabilities, rural, remote, low-income, independent workers, small organizations, and others
CONSULTATION (25%)

Digital meetups (May to December 2020)
  • Plan and facilitate up to six (6) public digital strategy meetups with a regional focus on a monthly or semi-monthly basis from May to December 2020, ~1.5 hours in duration each, dates and times to be determined
  • Participate in six (6) public digital strategy meetups with a national focus that occur monthly on third Wednesdays of the month from May to October 2020 at 12 noon to 1:30 pm Eastern
  • Participate in eight (8) private National Advisory Committee digital strategy meetups that occur monthly on second Tuesdays of the month from May to December 2020 at 12 noon to 1 pm Eastern
  • Schedules are subject to change.
Onsite roundtables (October 2020 to July 2021)
  • Contribute to planning and implementation of 1.5-day public regional digital strategy roundtables
  • Separate (or additional) facilitation and hosting fees are available for the roundtables
  • Roundtables take place in eight Canadian cities from October 2020 to June 2021, including St. John’s and Halifax (October 2020), Montreal (November 2020), Toronto (February 2021), Winnipeg (March 2021), Edmonton and Banff (April 2021), Vancouver and Whitehorse (May 2021)
  • Schedules are subject to change.
ADMINISTRATION (5%)
  • Support effective internal and team administration including financial and human resource management (budgeting and contracting), project management (milestone tracking and reporting), marketing outreach and communications (social media management, public relations), fundraising (public and private sector proposal writing and reporting), and other general administrative duties as required.


Requirements:

Desired qualifications include:
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline (arts, administration, business, information technology, marketing, event planning, applied research, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Minimum one to two years of relevant employment experience related to the position
  • Ability and experience engaging diverse and under-served communities at a meaningful level with a deep commitment to diversity, justice, equity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge, interest, or experience in one or more arts and culture disciplines, including visual, performing, media, literary, integrated, community-engaged arts, cultural heritage, craft, creative industries, and others
  • Knowledge, interest, or experience related to the digital transformation of arts and culture or relevant small to medium-sized enterprises in other related industries
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills (advanced speaking, reading and writing) in either English or French
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgement and effectively adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with strong, natural ability to collaborate effectively in team settings
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate small and large group meetings in a spirit of collaboration
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office 365, social media, survey and CRM software
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset, including intermediate to advanced level in oral, reading, and writing skills and comprehension in both English and French
  • The ability to speak or comprehend an Indigenous language would be an asset
  • The ability to sign or comprehend ASL would be an asset.


Additional Info:

Compensation is $15,000 flat-fee (contract). Flexible hours and location from anywhere in Canada. The jobs will remain open until filled.
