Organization Description

Orchestras Canada/Orchestres Canada

Orchestras Canada/Orchestres Canada is the national membership association for Canadian orchestras. Our mission is to be the united national voice of the Canadian orchestral community, furthering and enriching the work of Canadian orchestras through programs and services in both official languages.

Job Description

Orchestras Canada (OC), the national membership association for Canadian orchestras, has created a new, full-time employment position for someone who’s fascinated by not for profit performing arts organizations, has a keen interest in equity issues, community development, and adult education, and wants to play a central role in supporting lively and accessible Canadian orchestras.
OC’s current strategic plan calls on us to “support the resilience of Canadian orchestras, by connecting orchestra stakeholders with the knowledge, perspectives, and expertise they need to respond to the challenges of COVID-19, recover, re-imagine, and re-launch.” Knowledge-sharing, a focus on digital strategies and tools, and continued work in inclusion and diversity are pillars of our plan, and this position is being created in response to the plan.
We encourage candidates who are members of equity-seeking communities.

The person we hire will focus on OC’s member services, working collaboratively with the other members of our small team and a committee of volunteers to design and deliver learning and networking programs (online and in person), expand OC’s engagement with and impact on members, increase participation in our activities, and better connect members with one another, with OC, and with the knowledge and insights they need.
This job can be done from anywhere in Canada; some travel will be required when face-to-face meetings and events are again viable.

Scope of responsibilities include:
•    Taking the lead on the design and delivery of webinars, workshops, conferences, delivered by OC alone, and in collaboration with partners
•    Organizing and supporting peer exchange between member orchestra stakeholder groups
•    Some involvement in OC’s research efforts, including our biennial member satisfaction survey
•    Oversight of OC’s membership campaigns (renewal, retention, growth, and on-boarding)

Requirements:

The ideal candidate:
•    Is fluently bilingual (English/French)
•    Has experience in the not for profit arts and music sectors
•    Has insights into the roles that orchestras can play in their communities
•    Demonstrates strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
•    Has experience organizing events
•    Is passionate about research and learning
•    Is a good team player, yet is not afraid to question traditional ways of working
•    Enjoys working independently and knows when to check in
•    Uses technology with confidence
•    Has a combination of relevant work experience and education
•    Is legally able to work in Canada

Additional Info:

This is an employment position. OC offers extended health benefits plan through the ACTRA Fraternal Benefits Society program. OC is committed to staff development, and each employee has an annual professional development budget.
