Internationally renowned, Red Sky Performance is a leading company of contemporary Indigenous performance in Canada and worldwide. Our multi-award winning company was founded in 2000 by Artistic Director Sandra Laronde.
Our mandate is to create inspiring experiences of contemporary Indigenous arts and culture. 

We have proud and solid roots in Toronto’s vibrant community where we develop new creations that illuminate themes, aesthetics, and values of importance to Indigenous peoples.
Now in our 20th year of performance (dance, theatre, music and media), our work highlights the originality and power of contemporary Indigenous performance, enabling new creations to expand the breadth and scope of Indigenous-made work in Toronto, Ontario and Canada.
The vision of Red Sky Performance from its creator Sandra Laronde (Teme-Augama Anishinaabe – People of the Deep Water) is dedicated to creating and elevating the ecology of contemporary performance informed by Indigenous worldview and culture. As an Indigenous-led company, we have enjoyed 20 robust years of dance, theatre, music, and media.
Since 2000, we have created 16 original new works, 12 REDTalks & Red Sky at Night events, 4 Indigenous Music Creators Projects, 10 self-presenting activities and 275 community outreach activities in 20-years. Touring since 2003, we have delivered 2755, performances across Canada including 198 international performances in 17 countries on four continents.

Job Description

Reporting to the Executive & Artistic Director, the Finance Administrator is responsible for the financial administration and bookkeeping for Red Sky Performance. The Financial Administrator works in conjunction with the Executive & Artistic Director and the General Manager to oversee all aspects of the day-to-day financial systems of Red Sky Performance including full cycle bookkeeping for the Company.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  1. Oversee existing systems, monitor and apply best practices, create or modify financial forms, databases and tools to ensure efficient, accurate and timely collection, recording and reporting of Red Sky financial transactions.   
  2. Ensure rigorous financial checks and balances are in place across the company including liaising with co-workers ensuring appropriate utilization of established processes.
  3. Oversee and facilitate accounts payable/receivable.
  4. Oversee and facilitate recording of assets/liabilities including investments, prepaid expenses, capital assets and amortization, accrued liabilities and deferred revenues.
  5. Prepare biweekly payroll for staff and contractors and weekly payroll for artistic personnel during production projects.
  6. Monitor bank accounts for electronic transactions; identify errors or fraud; prepare deposits; obtain petty cash.
  7. Prepare/pay Receiver General, HST returns, credit cards, etc., to avoid penalties.
  8. Monitor the general ledger, balance sheet and statement of operations to ensure accuracy in reporting; generate monthly financial statements and a summary report.
  9. Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts and clearing accounts monthly; investments quarterly and facilitate recording of automatic renewals.
  10. Assist with CADAC reporting and statistical analyses (CADAC is a mandatory Arts Funding reporting tool), and other financial tracking of projects utilizing financial software for grant budgets and reporting. Systematically oversee and facilitate the recording of grant revenues and deferrals year over year.
  11. Assist the Executive & Artistic Director and General Manager to prepare and to monitor the annual operating budget  (+- $1.5M).
  12. Is responsible for preparing all aspects of the annual audit.


Key Requirements
  • Proven experience as a full cycle bookkeeper with a general financial administrative and systems background.  
  • High level of interest and competency in finance, accounting principles, math, and administrative systems to be able to provide financial analyses.
  • An adept problem solver who can readily locate errors, report them and fix them.
  • Proficient user of sector finance software including Quickbooks, Excel, TELEPAY; knowledge of Cloud and other online financial systems and tools is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to manage, guide and lead employees in using established financial processes.
  • A solid understanding of financial analysis methods and accounting principles.
  • Working knowledge of statutory legislation and regulations to ensure Red Sky’s financial transactions and reporting are lawful and meet government and sector standards.
  • Preference will be given to those with sector experience in terms of grant funding, tracking deferred revenues, CADAC reporting and audit processes.
