Job Description
The archival collection of a Canadian artist with an established career from the 1960s to 1990s requires an experienced archivist to undertake a preliminary cataloguing of the collection, which includes art works, sketches, documents, correspondence, photographs, drawings, photographic and 16mm film negatives, etc. The materials are in good and dry condition but require a serious cataloguing. They are cuurently stored in eight large plastic bins (20"x16"x12") at a downtown Toronto location. The work can be undertaken at the applicant's home or workspace, or we can provide a downtown office location. We estimate, roughly, the length of full-time contract to be about 4-6 weeks; however, short-listed applicants will be able to view the materials and make their own assessment of the estimated length of the contract. Ongoing consultation and guidance will be provided by the employer (not the artist). The artist will be available to answer questions and confirm details about the collection once the main cataloguing work is done. A preliminary spreadsheet of the artist's existing art works that are located in North America in institutional and private collections was completed by a professional archivist two years ago.
Please put 'Fine Art Archivist application' in the subject line.
Interviews will be held on June 8 in the afternoon in a downtown Toronto location.
Requirements:
Archival cataloguing experience; preferably with fine art archival experience.
