Job Description

Bau-Xi Gallery is pleased to be offering an internship at our Toronto location, with a start date of February 1st, 2019. This is a paid position, with opportunity for advancement within the company.
Bau-Xi Gallery is one of Canada’s most established commercial galleries, specializing in the promotion and sale of fine art in galleries in Toronto and Vancouver. We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to contribute to and assist our growing team in Toronto.
Reporting to the gallery manager and directors, the gallery intern will assist the gallery associates with a wide variety of tasks such as website management, gallery maintenance, exhibition installation, photographing and documenting artwork inventory, and other gallery administrative tasks.
The intern will gain valuable and applicable experience in the commercial gallery world. The ideal candidate will have a long-term goal of working in a commercial art gallery and will possess a strong interest in fine art sales and consulting.


  • Careful attention to detail and accuracy, in a constantly changing work environment
  • Superior communication skills, with a polite and professional speaking, phone, and email manner
  • High level of professionalism and maturity
  • Current or previous educational experience in an art related field
  • Knowledge of contemporary fine art, and a basic understanding of commercial gallery work
  • Be a contributing team player, with a desire to learn from and work collaboratively with fellow staff members
  • Willingness to support gallery staff in a multitude of gallery tasks including gallery maintenance, administrative duties, and artwork installation
  • Heavy lifting ability (25 lbs)
  • Comfortable performing physical tasks such as hanging and handling heavy artwork, standing on a ladder, etc. (training provided)
  • Working weekend hours. Both Saturday & Sunday 9:45-5:30pm

Additional Info:

Experience with the following is considered an asset:
  • Previous commercial gallery work or volunteering
  • Adobe Photoshop, and digital photography skills
