The Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB) is an award-winning, public gallery located in the heart of the city. It hosts as many as twenty exhibitions per year and is home to an acclaimed collection of Canadian contemporary ceramics.

An interactive and creative space, the AGB welcomes creative thinkers and artists. It offers public tours and art education programs for all ages. Seven guilds create within the AGB, using studios dedicated to photography, hand-weaving, spinning, sculpture, woodcarving, fine arts, pottery and hooking craft.
 

Job Description

HEAD OF VENUE RENTAL AND VISITOR EXPERIENCE  

ART GALLERY OF BURLINGTON 

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Operations  

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, primarily Monday to Friday. This role is an onsite events-based position with commitments to evening, weekend and holiday hours depending on event needs. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS: The duties of this job include sitting, standing, bending over,  

kneeling, and lifting or moving objects up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs, and being mobile throughout a 7-hour workday. 

COMPENSATION: Salary $50,000, comprehensive health and dental benefits package, the potential to participate in OMERS pension plan, free onsite parking. 

HOURS: 35 hours per week / full time. (Potential for lieu days after busy rental periods) 

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

As a key operations team member, the Head of Venue Rental and Visitor Experience, is responsible for providing excellent customer service and promoting this idea throughout the organization. In addition, they are responsible for keeping the department running efficiently and profitably, increasing customer satisfaction, loyalty and retention and meeting visitor expectations. Equally, as an organized venue manager, they handle venue operations, maintenance, and bookings, including creating venue pricing packages, securing bookings, liaising with event managers and clients, and coordinating the logistics of events. 
 

Customer Service Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for (managing/ supervising) a customer service and facility team, encouraging initiative, teamwork, and attention to detail while providing exceptional customer service 

  • Acts respectfully, accountable, and generously towards other staff, volunteers, AGB Guild members, and the general public maintaining positive working relationships through excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Improve customer service experience, create engaged customers and facilitate organic growth 

  • Develop customer service procedures, policies and standards. 

  • Recruit, mentor and develop customer service teams and nurture an environment where they can excel through encouragement and empowerment.  

  • Find opportunities to enhance the processes and systems we use to improve experiences for employees, guests and clients. 

  • Provide support and assistance to the Senior Manager of Operations for day-to-day facility tasks, emergency preparedness, and security. 

  • Works to further the goals and objectives of the AGB and participates actively in the institution's life.   

 
Venue Rental Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee and achieve the Galleries' annual venue rental revenue targets. 

  • Assist and support the Senior Manager, Operations, with scheduling and executing venue rentals, ensuring an overall positive experience for clients and visitors. 

  • Delivery of hospitality services, including banquet room set up and strikes, basic catering services, full knowledge of bar service, and bar inventory management control. 

  • Assist in planning and executing special internal events and coordinating with internal departments and external vendors.  

  • Foster and steward professional relationships with external user groups, including new and existing clients, community partners, catering partners and vendors 

  • Support the negotiation of quotes and contracts with clients and vendors, assist in accounts receivable and process payments using a POS system 

  • Ensures the AGB remains compliant with AODA regulations 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Direct oversight and supervision of a team of Visitor & Facility Assistants.



Requirements:

The ideal candidate will hold the following qualifications, skills, and experience: 

EXPERIENCE You have worked within the hospitality industry for a minimum of 5 years, with operational experience supervising a team. Certificates: First Aid, Defibrillator Training, Smart Serve, WHIMIS 

PROVEN RECORD You are a self-motivated, optimistic, professional and productive individual who has worked in a dynamic environment where you have experienced prioritizing and resolving issues in the moment. Your time management skills and attention to detail, and creativity in the hospitality industry allow you to thrive in a fast-paced environment 

LEADERSHIP You have a proven ability to build proactive teams, work well together and get results. You can achieve goals, juggle timelines, and manage client's expectations while maintaining a positive attitude and work environment for your team
