Job Description

Term: March 7 , 2022 to December 31, 2022 (43 weeks)
Salary/Fee: $33,600 ($30/hr)
Location: Canada-wide (remote, some in-person if Toronto based)

Hours: This position is 20 hours per week, except for May 2 - October 24 (26 weeks) hours increase to 30 hours/week for the festival season (total of 1120  hours for the duration of the contract).

About the Role:
As Junior Web Developer, this position will be responsible for the smooth operation of the front and back end of the festival website’s UI, custom customer accounts, checkout and integration with Shopify. They will liaise with FFDN’s Digital Technology Partner, Pilot Interactive to resolve bugs and ensure proper rollout of website improvements.

As IT Manager, this position will oversee all festival ticketing infrastructure, including reporting. A key element of this role will be working with festival staff to audit FFDN’s existing ticketing, customer management and database softwares to identify and recommend long-term data driven software solutions for the organization.

With a keen eye for detail and a solid computer programming background, this position will play a key role in improving user experience and backend data systems. The IT Manager/ Junior Web Developer will work closely with the marketing team and Artistic Director in implementing FFDN’s artistic vision online. They will work closely with the Marketing Director to execute website enhancements according to festival timelines.


IT Management
  • Work with members of the FFDN team to review and evaluate current organizational IT infrastructure and make recommendations on how to streamline and optimize software systems, integrations, data processing, reporting and database solutions
  • Work with the General Manager and/or Box Office Coordinator to generate regular ticketing reports, in tandem with Quickbooks and payout reporting
  • Work with the General Manager and/or Box Office Coordinator in generating box office reconciliation reports and audience data
  • Manage potential ticketing integrations and data collection from Ticketmaster
  • During festival time, work closely with FFDN’s Box Office Coordinator, ensuring digital tickets, codes and customer service emails are being dispatched to ticket holders, troubleshoot any issues as they arise
  • Work with members of the FFDN team, and potentially external consultants, to research, identify and test ticketing / database solutions for long-term growth and sustainability of the organization’s operations, particularly with an eye for integration with other products and softwares FFDN uses
  • Attend operations meetings with external stakeholders to identify, map and test digital solutions in order to meet partner or customer needs
Web Development
  • Update and maintain festival website, My FFDN account, and custom paywall system from provided design concepts using standard HTML/CSS/JavaScript practices
  • Ensure data systems are implemented in accordance with all current and forthcoming privacy laws and standards 
  • Build interactive seating maps that smoothly communicate and interact with data from Shopify, and/or FFDN’s CRM database
  • Create and maintain custom Shopify ticketing solutions and manage API integrations between custom UI, Shopify, CiviCRM, Mailchimp and Storyblok CMS
  • Ensure best performance of the festival website through rigorous cross-browser and mobile, tablet and desktop testing
  • Work with Marketing team to identify and resolve bugs, provide innovative development solutions and adapt to artistic programming needs
  • Use ClickUp project management software to track and complete web development projects and software solutions within a timely manner. 
  • Perform all of the above tasks with assistance and supervision from FFDN’s Digital Technology partner, Pilot Interactive, and in accordance with project timelines managed by FFDN’s Marketing Director.


  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Programming, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years experience working in IT Operations 
  • 1-3 years of software development experience using web application technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Experience with ReactJS and API systems is strongly encouraged and highly considered
  • Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security networks, systems administration, databases and data storage systems.
  • Strong understanding of CSS, Browser and Email Client relationships.
  • Advanced proficiency with data management tools and web-based CRM systems (e.g.CiviCRM, Mailchimp, CanadaHelps, spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets etc.), CSV datasets)
  • Knowledge of CMS platforms like Storyblok or similar
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude and adaptable personality - ability to problem solve, embrace flexibility and versatility, while working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Experience with and a passion for the arts is an asset

Other Information
FFDN’s offices are located at 20 Dundas St. West, 9th floor. Staff continue to work remotely with some in person meetings and gatherings in accordance with government issued workplace health and safety guidelines. Please note that some evening and weekend work may be required, particularly during festival time.
