The DOC Institute is a one-stop shop for professionals to learn business skills, hone their craft and make industry connections.

Job Description

DOC Institute, the Documentary Organization of Canada—Ontario Chapter

This temporary position will fill a parental leave lasting 5 months, March - August.

Fundraising Duties include but are not limited to:

-Writing funding and sponsorship applications, proposals, and final reports

-Maintaining and growing existing relationships with funders and sponsors; growing new opportunities for DOC Institute

-Maintaining a calendar of funding and sponsorship deadlines

-Collaborating with the board on internal fundraising activities

-Working with DOC’s Executive Director on programs of national scope


Staff and Project Supervision Duties include, but are not limited to:

-Support staff to deliver DOC Institute’s professional development programs. See additional information at

-Support staff with development of communication materials.

-Ensure all program deliverables stay on-schedule and events stay within budgets.

-Work with staff to ensure sound event logistics and production, including volunteer and personnel management/communications; audio/visual support; registration; program outlines; event material (digital and printed), showflows; and post-event evaluation.


Administrative duties include, but are not limited to:

- Working with the DOC bookkeeper to maintain timely and up to date accounts payable and receivable, monthly payments, and generate reports for the board.

- Working with staff to maintain office filing.

- Regular banking duties.

- Leading chapter board meetings and committee activities.


The ideal candidate will have:

- At least 5+ years of fundraising and sponsorship experience, ideally within a progressive arts-focused non-profit organization, and 2+ years of management experience.

- Interest in the Canadian and international media landscape.

- Excellent professional communication skills (verbal/written) within a variety of contexts - promotional, grant writing, etc.

- A natural collaborator with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail balanced with ability to think big-picture.

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.

- Ability to work effectively within a small and fast-paced team maintaining an open and positive attitude.

- A track record of being reliable and collaborative.

- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).

- G level driver’s license.

- Able to work occasional nights and weekends in Toronto, potentially with some travel, as required by organizational events.

- Familiarity with the Documentary Organization of Canada’s activities.
