Led by Music Director Elisa Citterio, Tafelmusik is one of the world’s leading period-instrument ensembles, performing on instruments and in styles appropriate for the era of the music. Renowned for dynamic, engaging, and soulful performances, Tafelmusik performs some 80 concerts each year for audiences across Toronto, and is Canada’s most toured orchestra, having performed in more than 350 cities in 32 countries. The orchestra is often joined by the critically acclaimed Tafelmusik Chamber Choir and its director, Ivars Taurins.
Tafelmusik also seeks to transport audiences to the baroque and classical periods through insightful multimedia programs and adventurous cross-cultural collaborations. Our musicians share their knowledge and experience through comprehensive education and artist-training initiatives such as the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer and Winter Institutes. Tafelmusik’s recordings on the Sony, CBC Records, Analekta, and Tafelmusik Media labels have garnered ten JUNOs and numerous international recording prizes.

Job Description

Join a dynamic patron services department in one of Canada's most high-profile and innovative musical ensembles.
The position serves as an essential part of the concert staff team and works closely with front-of-house and volunteers. The Junior Event Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and implementation of hospitality services during Tafelmusik intermissions, pre/post-concert receptions and artist hospitality, in addition to event coordination for a variety of public and fundraising events including donor stewardship events and audience development activities.

  • Act as day-of point person on-site for hospitality services at Trinity St. Paul Centre concerts and outreach events at other venues
  • Ensure high quality of intermission food & drink service sales, including friendly and prompt staffing from volunteers and staff vendors
  • Maintain high standard of cleanliness and manages equipment and ensure well-organized storage facilities with strict inventory control
  • Coordinate supplies, equipment, drinks and food for intermission
  • Implement the arrangement and strike of the physical set-up
  • Act as assistant lead for receptions and events, including but not exclusive to donor receptions, outreach activities, and organizational social events
  • Create welcoming ambiance with décor, food and drink in a cost-effective manner
  • Coordinate inventory and storage of supplies, equipment, décor, drinks (alcohol included) and food
  • Supervises key volunteers and assists as needed
  • Be an active team player in large-scale organizational events
  • Track and submit expenses in a timely and efficient manner



  • Restaurant, catering and/or hospitality experience
  • Team player with superb people skills and experience in coordinating diverse groups
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 15 kg
  • Flexible work schedule, including evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy environment
  • Up to date training in Smart Serve and Food Handling
  • Class G driver’s license and access to vehicle
  • Event coordination and project management experience
  • First Aid training
  • Knowledge of classical music & the performing arts scene in the GTA
  • Affection for church cats

Additional Info:

This is a part-time, contracted position. Shifts are an average of 4 hours, mostly in the evenings and on Sunday afternoons. A 10 month commitment is required. During the hiring process, the season schedule with mandatory dates will be provided. Approximate average of 25 hours per month, with the potential availability of additional time.  
Rate: $22.00 per hour – invoiced after each program run
Target Start Date: September 16, 2019
