Due to the popularity of our programs, we are expanding our teaching team. Are you an experienced art instructor with formal art training? Are you looking for the opportunity to teach various visual art projects to children and work with other ‘creatives’?

Job Description
Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) is hiring Visual Art Instructors to teach during our March Break (March 16-20) and Summer (June 29 – Sept 4) Art Camps. The ideal candidates will work as part of a team of Art Instructors and teen volunteers to create a fun, safe and educational visual art experience for children aged 6 to 13 years. Art Instructors will teach various visual art projects along a theme and lead games and activities while supervising a group of up to 16 children per day in an art studio and beautiful natural outdoor setting.   


The ideal Art Instructor candidate will be engaging, with excellent communication skills to develop a good rapport with students and parents. They will have strong classroom management techniques, be organized, resourceful and have great problem-solving abilities. The Instructor will represent VAM in a professional manner with a focus on customer service.

A post-secondary education in Visual Arts or Education is preferred with experience working in various media including watercolour, acrylic, pastel, collage, dry media and printmaking as well as a basic knowledge of art history. We are looking for exceptional leaders with the ability to work independently, as well as being a good team player.

The Camp Visual Art Instructor position is 40 hours per week plus additional hours for training, camp preparation and clean up. March Break Camp runs daily from Monday March 16th – Friday March 20th.  The ideal candidates must be available from Monday March 9th through to Monday March 23rd. Summer Camp runs mid June - first week of September 2020. This is a contract position.

Applicants must be between 20 – 30 years of age. (Preference will be given to Visual Arts Students.)

Applicants must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial regulations.  *Foreign students are not eligible.
Art Camp Visual Art Instructor Responsibilities:

Collaborate in the development of art project samples and ensure you have a thorough knowledge of each assigned project
Organize, prepare and maintain studios, art supplies and materials
Instruct and manage groups of 16 students aged 6-13 in art studios and common spaces from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm daily
Mentor and manage student volunteers in and out of the art studios
Maintain a safe and inclusive camp environment for 90 campers per week
Supervise campers when playing outdoors, ensuring they stay in designated areas
Communicate with Program Coordinator and fellow instructors daily
Provide a Vulnerable Sector Search
Provide a current First Aid Certificate (or be willing to obtain) Required Skills or Training
