MusiCounts is Canada’s music education charity associated with the JUNO Awards and we believe music adds possibilities for youth. We celebrate musical excellence, and put instruments into the hands of children who need them most. MusiCounts’ mission is to ensure that all youth in Canada have access to the transformational power of music education in their school or community, and that's why the charity focuses on improving access to music education for youth by offering instrument grants to schools and communities.

Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager, Marketing & Communications leads the
planning, development and implementation of MusiCounts’ marketing strategies,
communications, brand management, and content strategy. This individual will play an
important role in the MusiCounts strategic and business planning process. This
individual will also assist in the planning and execution of MusiCounts-related activities
at the annual JUNO Awards and Country Music Week.

Brand Management (30%)
▪ Lead all MusiCounts’ marketing strategy and awareness building campaigns
▪ Oversee creative concepts, storyboarding
▪ Collaborate with CARAS marketing and communications team
▪ Develop all key marketing metrics and KPI’s
▪ Track web, social and other marketing analytics as required, and adjust strategies as
▪ Support partner marketing campaigns as needed
▪ Manage advertising strategy, budget, execution and analytics
▪ Collaborate with external marketing partners to secure placement of MusiCounts
assets and ads
▪ Leverage relationships with music industry community to raise awareness (artist /
industry outreach and engagement)

Content, Web & Social (30%)
▪ Lead overall content and social strategy, and manage long term content calendar
▪ Manage MusiCounts website including content, updates and translations
▪ Plan and execute MusiCounts monthly e-newsletter
▪ Collaborate with colleagues to support their campaigns and initiatives
▪ Manage relationship with website hosting company, development team and external
▪ Oversee development of new MusiCounts website
▪ Oversee video content creation and budgets

Communications & PR (30%)
▪ Manage all MusiCounts’ external communications and oversee relationship with
external publicist
▪ Oversee review of all press releases
▪ Oversee all media and communications for events, and liaise with media as required
▪ Develop scripts and speaking notes for MusiCounts events and media opportunities

Other (10%)
▪ Other duties as required


Qualifications & Experience
▪ University degree or equivalent professional accreditation
▪ At least 5 to 7 years of experience in marketing, communications and digital/ content
▪ Experience in charitable/not for profit sector preferred
▪ Excellent communication, leadership and collaboration skills; ability to work with a
variety of internal and external stakeholders
▪ Professional demeanor especially when dealing with executive level stakeholders;
sensitivity to the challenges faced by minority and marginalized stakeholder groups
▪ Experience with Google Suite of products, Blackbaud CRM
▪ Experience with web and social media dashboards, publishing tools and analytics
platforms such as Hootsuite and Google Analytics
▪ Experience with content management systems such as Wordpress or Squarespace and
basic html knowledge
▪ Basic design and video skills helpful - Canva, PhotoShop
▪ Music industry knowledge is an asset
▪ Ability to travel within Canada, especially during March/April (timing of JUNO
▪ Bilingualism is an asset
