Organization Description

Sudbury Indie Cinema is Sudbury's only rep house cinema. We are a not-for-profit, member-owned co-op. We bring world-class independent cinema to the big screen on a year-round basis to to Northern Ontario audiences. Being mission-driven, rather than profit-driven. we select high-caliber, laudable films that give voice to lesser-heard perspectives on the big screen- including Canadian films. We actively support other arts organizations, grassroots not-for-profits and support local homegrown filmmakers. Originally, we formed as a community response to the growing monopoly of Hollywood blockbusters on a shrinking number of large screens, back in summer 2013. We since secured a lease to convert and repurpose part of a closed school into a single screen, state-of-the-art, digital cinema. We open in our own location early in 2019 at 162 Mackenzie St.  For festivals, we also program films from other downtown Sudbury screening venues.
