All of these are fitting descriptors of MonstrARTity, for when we put on a show, we do it big. We’re talking rockin’ bands playing hit music, backed by a live orchestra alongside a face-meltingly awesome laser show. We’re talking hit Bollywood songs fused with hit Top 40 songs to create the most feel-good beats you’ve ever heard. We’re talking packed venues and tens of thousands of people dancing, singing and screaming for encores. We’re talking monster-sized fun.

Born in 2011, MonstrARTity Creative Community is a not-for-profit organization, based in Mississauga and committed to providing entertainment for the young and old alike. Ever expanding our productions, MonstrARTity is the producer of Bollywood Monster Mashup, which is the largest South Asian festival in Canada, as well as the team behind the award-winning Monster Rock Orchestra act and Monster World Mashup festival, Monster Arts for Youth school workshop program and Monster Artist Development program.

Job Description

MonstrARTity is currently seeking applicants for eleven summer youth positions:

  1. PR & Marketing Assistant
  2. Social Media Assistant
  3. Graphic Design Assistant
  4. Animation & Motion Graphics Assistant
  5. Event Production Assistant
  6. Community Outreach Assistant
  7. Web Developer Assistant

with availability from May 11, 2020.

These positions will support three programs:

  1. #BollywoodMonster Mashup (BMM), the LARGEST South Asian festival in Canada;
  2. #MonsterArts for Youth (MAY), which provides workshops in South Asian dance, music, visual arts, poetry and film to schools and senior groups
  3. #MonsterArtist Development (MAD), where artists are mentored on entrepreneurship and receive a professionally shot performance video

MonstrARTity is an award-winning, not-for-profit arts organization that consistently inspires tens of thousands with its original, innovative and world-class programming. These positions are comprised of a combination of remote work, team conference calls and weekly meetings in Mississauga.

Requirements:

PR & Marketing Assistant

DUTIES

The PR & Marketing Assistant is responsible for supporting the Marketing Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Engaging local and tourism markets via traditional marketing (advertising, media releases, online event listings, etc.)
  • Building our media release distribution list and cultivating relationships with media outlets to schedule media interviews and secure editorial coverage
  • Tracking media coverage, reach and engagement, and providing feedback to the Marketing Lead on all marketing activities, including statistical analyses and reports
  • Marketing research
  • Supporting the Marketing Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Eventbrite, Google Drive and Dropbox an asset

Social Media Assistant

DUTIES

The Social Media Assistant is responsible for supporting the Digital Marketing Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Engaging local and tourism markets via social media (ads, contests, polls, posts and news feeds) 
  • Scheduling social media conversations with artists, community groups, target audiences, and community leaders relevant to our activities
  • Increasing growth and engagement across our active social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, and LinkedIn)
  • Tracking media coverage, reach and engagement, and providing feedback to the Digital Marketing Lead on all social media activities, including collaborator interactions and statistical analyses and reports
  • Blogging and related research, including influencer outreach
  • Supporting the Digital Marketing Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Google Drive, Facebook Business, Hootsuite, Buffer and Google Adwords an asset

Graphic Design Assistant

DUTIES

The Graphic Design Assistant is responsible for supporting the Marketing Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Creating and updating from templates marketing materials for print and online (print ads, billboards, web banners, brochures, infographics, etc.)
  • Maintaining consistent branding across the organization, all its activities and all marketing collateral (step and repeats, websites, banners, T-shirts, etc.)
  • Supporting the Marketing Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of and access to Adobe Creative Suite programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets and Google Drive an asset

Animation & Motion Graphics Assistant

DUTIES

The Animation & Motion Graphics Assistant is responsible for supporting the Production Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Creating 2D motion graphics, lower thirds, and typography animations compliant with branding guidelines
  • Providing design and production support to organization’s video editing team
  • Designing animated GIFs and similar marketing assets for online and broadcast use
  • Creating compelling animations for use on LCD screens, including animations that span multiple screens, and digital ribbon boards at outdoor venues, as well as videos for social media and broadcast TV
  • Supporting the Production Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency with and access to Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator)
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Dropbox and Google Drive an asset
  • Previous experience working with creative agencies an asset

Event Production Assistant

DUTIES

The Event Production Assistant is responsible for supporting the Programming Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Coordinating with event suppliers, venue, community collaborators and security
  • Supporting scheduling requests, drafts of production event schedules and other logistics operations
  • Advancing and liaising with performing artists for organization’s festivals and arts programs
  • Supporting the planning, coordination and execution of a VIP launch party event
  • Supporting the Programming Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience coordinating and/or working at live events
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Dropbox, Eventbrite and Google Drive an asset

Community Outreach Assistant

DUTIES

The Community Outreach Assistant is responsible for supporting the Programming Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Designing a volunteer recruitment and vetting strategy
  • Implementing volunteer orientations, on-site management, and recognition
  • Coordinating with established volunteer organizations to secure volunteers for the event
  • Outreach to relevant community organizations for co-curation and long-term relationships
  • Advancing food and market vendor requirements and assisting with vendor research
  • Supporting event load-in, load-out, setup and teardown of interactive activities and food & market vendors
  • Coordinating in-kind partners for organization’s festivals and arts programs
  • Supporting the Programming Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience coordinating and working with volunteers
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer

Web Developer Assistant

DUTIES

The Web Developer Assistant is responsible for supporting the Digital Marketing Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Updating organization’s WordPress websites while ensuring cross-browser, cross-platform, mobile compatibility and SEO
  • Ensuring front-end of websites are aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly
  • Website integration with Google Suite products and other plug-ins
  • Coordinating with the marketing team on creating landing pages and other tracking tools
  • Tracking and providing feedback to the Digital Marketing Lead on all web-based activities, including statistical analyses and reports
  • Supporting the Digital Marketing Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in WordPress
  • Working knowledge of coding (HTML, CSS, javascript)
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer

Music Engraver Assistant

DUTIES

The Music Engraver Assistant is responsible for supporting the Programming Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Creating conductor scores and parts using Sibelius as per organization’s engraving templates
  • Assisting with arrangements of Bollywood and fusion pieces
  • Transcribing music by ear
  • Sourcing and liaising with professional and community artists
  • Assisting with conducting rehearsals and soundchecks
  • Coordinating session musicians for organization’s festivals and arts programs
  • Supporting the Programming Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient with Sibelius
  • Exceptional ear-training skills
  • Knowledge of Pro Tools beneficial
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Dropbox and Google Drive an asset

Videographer Assistant

DUTIES

The Videography Assistant is responsible for supporting the Video Lead. Specific tasks include:

  • Editing performance footage and interviews for use in TV spots, editorial video podcasts and social media
  • Adding motion graphics, lower thirds and credits to enhance storytelling compliant with branding guidelines
  • Coordinating with the programming team to capture performance footage and interviews with artists, audience, vendors, community leaders, program participants, and sponsors 
  • Supporting the Video Lead and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency with and access to video editing software (AfterEffects, Premiere, Final Cut etc)
  • Camera operation skills strongly preferred (please indicate make/model of your personal camera in application questions section)
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Dropbox and Google Drive an asset

Analyst Assistant

DUTIES

The Analyst Assistant is responsible for supporting the Project Manager. Specific tasks include:

  • Utilizing data manipulation and pivot tables to integrate data from different sources and analyze data and create dashboards
  • Developing new forms, spreadsheets, and templates to automate tasks normally done by staff
  • Identifying processes which could be automated and developing efficient methods to accomplish these various goals (ie. auto-transferring and organizing information between Google Forms and Google Sheets)
  • Supporting the Project Manager and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in: Google Suite, Google Apps Script, Google Data Studio, data manipulation, and pivot tables
  • Working knowledge of WordPress
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer

Statistics and Economics Assistant

DUTIES

The Statistics and Economics Assistant is responsible for supporting the Project Manager. Specific tasks include:

  • Analyzing past festival audience survey data and consumer behaviour
  • Supporting and guiding marketing team decisions through ongoing analyses of website analytics, social media campaign metrics, etc
  • Conducting demographic analyses of areas within Peel Region, within Ontario and beyond Ontario regarding specific local and tourist consumer targets
  • Evaluating ROI analyses for marketing campaigns and programming decisions and recommending changes based on data 
  • Conducting audience surveys (with small team of volunteers) and compiling results for recommendations on local and tourism program engagement, media preferences and visitor spending
  • Creating reports and visuals to summarize survey data for funding purposes
  • Supporting the Project Manager and other team members in activities necessary for the organization and the success of its events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of at least one of the following: SQL, RStudio, Stata (please indicate which of these you are familiar with in the application questions section)
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, team player, self-starter
  • Demonstrable above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Must reside in the GTA and have access to own laptop or computer
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Dropbox and Google Drive an asset

Eligibility
Our funder has the following requirements.
Individuals must...
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
