Job Description

Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services is a multi-service agency located in the heart of east downtown Toronto. For 90 years, we have been touching the lives of thousands of our community’s most vulnerable residents by providing a range of programs and services across every stage of life.
 
Dixon Hall Music School is currently looking for a committed individual to teach studio and engineering skills to individual youths in our downtown location.
Reporting to the Manager, Music School, the Music Recording and Composition Teacher will use Cubase and Reason software to encourage students to create and produce their own compositions, as well as learn recording arts.  The position starts September 4, 2019
 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide an enjoyable and educational experience of music for every student.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods and materials when necessary.
  • Encourage and prepare students for performances and recordings 0
  • Consult with parents on a regular basis.
  • Encourage students to make use of school resources such as instrument rentals, camps, etc.
  • Track attendance and submit completed student achievement reports in June, in a manner useful and constructive for parents and students.

 

Requirements:

  • Prior experience as a music teacher.
  • Post-secondary education in music, specifically in audio engineering and composition.
  • Full understanding of Cubase and Reason software.
  • Musical and teaching ability.
  • The ability to communicate well with people from all walks of life and from many cultural and social backgrounds.
  • The ability to teach various styles of music and knowledge of different approaches to teaching music.
  • High standards of professionalism and professional ethics
  • Strong English language written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to exchange knowledge.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check is required.
