Esprit Orchestra

Established in 1983, Esprit Orchestra is Canada’s only full-sized orchestra devoted exclusively to the creation and presentation of new classical music. Esprit presents an annual subscription series at the acoustically acclaimed Koerner Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music. The orchestra is devoted to developing a Canadian musical literature and, to this end, it commissions and premieres works from a range of established and emerging composers and ensures continued public access to these works. The orchestra’s activities also include education, outreach and mentoring programs, CD recordings and touring. Excellence, innovation and the ability to collaborate with other organizations in an exemplary, trendsetting ways are Esprit hallmarks.

Job Description

The Esprit Orchestra is seeking a dynamic individual with strong administrative and coordination skills to join us as the Production Coordinator for 11-week contract with possibility for renewal. Working as a member of the administrative team and reporting to the Operations Manager, the PC oversees and manages production and event planning aspects of the organization. 

Position Title: Production Coordinator
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Type: Part-time, Contract

• Produce Esprit’s concerts and events 
• Liaise with venue partners, primarily the Royal Conservatory, on all aspects of Koerner Hall concert series (production, event coordination departments and FOH)
• Maintain professional and friendly relations with venue partners and suppliers
• Work in tandem with Esprit’s Operations Manager, Personnel Manager and Toronto Musicians’ Union representative to ensure performances abide by union standards
• Advance and coordinate all technical production requirements for all performance and rehearsal venues
• Create production schedules and provide cost estimates in advance of events.
• Create packages of event information for the various venues to facilitate the execution of an event
• Arrange for the rental of equipment, negotiating with suppliers for best available price
• Plan and oversee production and rehearsal and run of show schedules
• Conduct site visits and identify risks and opportunities
• Order programmed music from publishers and/or composers
• Recruit and train event-support volunteers as needed
• Collect invoices from suppliers and submit to Esprit for payment
• Participate in the evaluation of festivals, events and performances, making recommendations and implementing procedural changes

Other duties as required. 


• Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education or experience 
• Experience in concert production, ideally in the non-profit and performing arts sectors
• Knowledge of orchestral music, the arts sector, concert production and event planning
• Well-developed coordination and administrative skills
• Superb organization skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communications skills, both written and oral
• Availability on February 26, March 22 and April 16-18

Additional Info:

Hours of Work
• Approximately 10 hours* per week, with increased hours around concert events
• Evening and weekend work required for events and concerts
*note these are flexible hours

• $20/hour, to be billed bi-weekly upon submission of timesheets
