Organization Description

Coal Mine Theatre

The Coal Mine Theatre is a small independent theatre company based in Toronto’s east end, on the Danforth. Annually, we produce a season of 4 shows in our small black box theatre (80 seats), all of which are Toronto premiers of challenging and award winning scripts from around the world. The Coal Mine is inspired by the intimacy and excitement of the Off-Off-Broadway experience:  well known names routinely share the stage (and backstage) with up-and-comers in what has been a thrilling mix, garnering numerous Dora and Toronto Critics’ awards every season.

Job Description

Resident Production Manager. $28,080 per year, which includes a four show, six month season, and a lighter six month planning/prep/maintenance period.

We are seeking a highly skilled individual with a commitment to artistic excellence and a natural enthusiasm for making theatre. Work begins Sept 1, 2021. This individual will be responsible for the efficient scheduling and operation of the theatre venue and the broad strokes of season scheduling and budgeting. Their responsibilities will fall into four main categories, as laid out below. Due to the small size of our organization, some of the venue responsibilities of this position overlap with duties normally held by a technical director. In addition to these year-long responsibilities, this individual will also serve as the Production Manager for each of the shows in our four-show season (six months long), with responsibilities outlined below.

Responsibilities will include:
Administration, Strategic Planning and Budgeting
Design implementation and show development
Personnel Hiring, Scheduling and Management
Facility and Venue Maintenance
Show PM (Production Manager for each of the four shows)

*Full details of each of the headings above will be provided to candidates we wish to interview.

Relevant experience in Production Management
Excellent communication skills
Desire to contribute to the growth of a dynamic organization
Self-starter, strong work ethic, and ability to execute work at a high level of competence
Eye for detail
Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Persons Check

Computer skills including VectorWorks (or other CAD), Excel, online team management
Proven history in related positions or relevant schooling
Competence and experience in related technical theatre disciplines (ie. Technical Direction, Technician, Carpentry, Design)
