Job Description

Publicist
 
This position reports to the Director of Communications and Programming.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Working with the Communications Manager, in the communications, marketing, and promotion of all Mirvish Productions at its four venues: The Royal Alexandra Theatre, The Princess of Wales Theatre, The CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre and the CAA Theatre.
  • Develop pitches and co-ordinate positive stories in the media about Mirvish Productions’ shows, performances, and performers.
  • Write and disseminate press releases, press kit materials, press invitations etc.
  • Ensure that the positioning and messaging of communications is always in keeping with the overall tone of all Mirvish Productions’ initiatives.
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with local and national media outlets, traditional and digital media. Seek out new outlets and explore opportunities to engage digital influencers.
  • Assist in the co-ordination of media events, including Opening Nights. Provide reviewers and others in the media with background materials, videos, etc. Attend these and other events as required.
  • Work collaboratively with employees in the Marketing and Communications Department and, as required, with employees in all Mirvish Productions departments.


Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • Thorough understanding of publicity campaigns, digital communication environments, social media trends and press strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle a variety of day-to-day tasks concurrently, work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work positively with employees at all levels as well as with media personnel, artists, and the public.
  • Employees are expected to be flexible and proactive when responding to changes in the scope of duties, work hours etc.
  • Must be computer and internet literate.
  • Absolute discretion and due care of confidential information and materials are essential to the effective performance of this position.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience working in a media or theatre environment and/or a related degree.


Additional Info:

This full-time position is located in Toronto, Ontario and will begin on or before July 3rd, 2023.
