Request For Proposals: Space Designer

We are seeking proposals for the design and development of a new headquarters space, for Black Lives Matter.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with the work of Black Lives Matter-Toronto and the movement for Black lives in Canada. The ideal candidate will have experience overseeing space transformations and design processes.

 

About Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter is a network that fights for Black liberation and justice.

 

We aim be a platform upon which black communities across Canada can actively dismantle all forms of anti-Black racism, liberate blackness, support black healing, affirm Black existence, and create freedom to love and self-determine. We work to forge critical connections and to work in solidarity with Black communities, Black-centric networks, solidarity movements, and allies in order to to dismantle all forms of state-sanctioned oppression, violence, and brutality committed against African, Caribbean, and Black cis, queer, trans, and disabled populations in Canada.

 

About the Space

The space is a 1700-square foot, 1-story, open concept space in Toronto. We will be renovating the space and making a plan for its use. The Space Designer will oversee the development of these plans in conjunction with a coordination team.

 

Scope of Work
The space designer will be responsible for:

 

a) the development of a renovation plan, and
b) the oversight of the approved plans, including subcontracting plumbers, trades people, etc. as needed.  

 

Timeline

The project will begin December 15, 2018 and will run through to February 28, 2019 pending approval of the planning team.

 

Proposal

Interested applicants should submit a two page proposal including the following elements:

 

a). A one page summary explaining their experience and why they are the best fit for the role.

b). a two-three paragraph description of how they would undertake the transformation process of the space.

c). Proposals should include a one page budget.

 

Remuneration

$10,000
