Led by Music Director Elisa Citterio, Tafelmusik is one of the world’s leading period-instrument ensembles, performing on instruments and in styles appropriate for the era of the music. Renowned for dynamic, engaging, and soulful performances, Tafelmusik performs some 80 concerts each year for audiences across Toronto, and is Canada’s most toured orchestra, having performed in more than 350 cities in 32 countries. The orchestra is often joined by the critically acclaimed Tafelmusik Chamber Choir and its director, Ivars Taurins.
Tafelmusik also seeks to transport audiences to the baroque and classical periods through insightful multimedia programs and adventurous cross-cultural collaborations. Our musicians share their knowledge and experience through comprehensive education and artist-training initiatives such as the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer and Winter Institutes. Tafelmusik’s recordings on the Sony, CBC Records, Analekta, and Tafelmusik Media labels have garnered ten JUNOs and numerous international recording prizes.

Job Description

As Sales Representative, you will set up and strike the merchandise table, ensuring items are displayed in an attractive manner. You will navigate the POS system and handle cash efficiently and accurately. You will report patron feedback to the Manager of Customer Experience, and familiarize yourself with and properly store inventory, while providing a polished and professional sales experience.


  • Sell merchandise at events
  • Maximize customer interest and sales levels by displaying products appropriately
  • Calculate sales figures, gauge patron reactions and communicate popular items to the Manager of Customer Experience to anticipate product needs
  • Report sales to the Manager of Customer Experience and Box Office Managers
  • Work collaboratively with Tafelmusik staff and volunteers
  • Proven working experience in merchandising, customer service and/or retail sales with a minimum of one (1) year relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong listening, presentation and decision making skills
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to “decode” customers; outstanding sales instinct
  • Experience with POS and payment terminals
  • Enthusiastic, confident, strategic thinker and an independent worker
  • Team player with superb and genuine people skills
  • Ability to nurture and sustain relationships with customers
  • Strong money management skills
  • Superb communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy environment
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for classical music
  • Experience with the Tessitura Network
  • Knowledge of baroque and classical music
  • Ability to communicate in other languages
  • Affection for church cats

Additional Info:

This is a part-time, contracted position, with an average 5 hour shift. Most shifts are in the evening and on Sunday afternoons. Average 15-20 hours per month. Venues include Trinity St. Paul’s Centre, Koerner Hall, and Meridian Arts Centre (George Weston Recital Hall). During the hiring process a season schedule with required dates will be provided.
Rate: $20.00 per hour – invoiced after each program run
