Job Description

TORONTO STAR DONATION FILM FILES CATALOGUING CO-OP

In 2022, the FRL accepted a donation of film file materials from the Toronto Star’s now defunct Entertainment section including roughly 7 file cabinets of presskit and promotional materials related to films from the 1980s-the 2000’s.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Film Reference Library, the student will assist with the integration of materials from this new donation into existing film files. The project will also involve the creation and cataloguing of new film file records. The material will consist mainly of textual records, printed materials, photographic or born digital images. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for safely handling archival materials and rehousing in appropriate archival enclosures.
  • Required to follow internal cataloguing standards when entering information in excel docs for upload to database.
  • Responsible for accurately recording accession numbers on objects and in catalogue records.
  • Responsible for search of online and internal databases for film titles, dates, and relevant people and places.

JOB GRADE & RATE OF PAY:
  • School Course Credit

TARGET CONTRACT DATES:
  • October 10th to December 15, 2023

WORK LOCATION:
  • Office Location: 350 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5

 

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience handling and cataloguing archival or reference materials
  • Experience implementing cataloguing standards, classification systems and controlled vocabularies
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research
  • Ability to follow instructions and receive feedback
  • Interest in / knowledge of cinema is considered an asset
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends
  • This position requires being in office on a regular basis.
