Job Description

Based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Technician works closely with stage managers, character managers, performers and creative teams on the technical and operational needs of the rehearsal process as well as working in close partnership with the DCL Orlando and shipboard technical teams.  This position represents Disney Cruise Line and the Walt Disney Company in all respects and must be able to interact with performers, creative teams and managers of all levels in a positive and productive way.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and routine repair of rehearsal studios, props, puppets, set pieces, stunt room and storage areas including building props and set pieces when required.
  • Manage puppet maintenance program with local vendor.
  • Technical lead on facility stunt rehearsals. 
  • Regular checks on technical systems, stunt room, storage rigging and Spanish webs, logging dates, times and needs.
  • Ordering of technical supplies as needed.
  • Support Production Supervisors during rehearsal set up/strike and during rehearsal runs of shows.
  • Maintain audio systems and liaise with audio vendor as required.
  • Maintain regular communication with Celebration technical team.
  • Keep weekly reports on facility technical status.
  • General facility repairs as needed.   
  • Preset and test A/V for meetings and teleconferences.
  • Maintain safety protocols in facility and with all equipment.


Requirements:

  • 4-5 + years’ experience working in similar role or capacity.
  • Post-Secondary education and or training in technical theatre and events.
  • Strong technical and carpentry skills.
  • Understanding of the Performing Arts within Cruise industry considered an asset.
  • Ability to assess and manage competing and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, leadership and problem solving skills.
  • A solution seeker with the ability to trouble shoot and thrive under pressure.
  • Enjoys being part of an exciting, busy team.  
  • Understands big picture impacts.
  • Familiar with automated rigging systems with the ability to trouble shoot challenges.
  • Familiar with AMX audio systems with the ability to trouble shoot challenges.
  • Strong computer literacy.
