Budget for website: maximum of $15,000 CAD
Goal for new home page refresh and launch: February 1, 2021

Project Overview

Wavelength is seeking design and development proposals to overhaul its new website: wavelengthmusic.ca
Wavelength’s website currently holds over ten years’ worth of artist profiles, interviews, images, event listings and posters. Our first goal is a refresh of the look and feel of at least the home page, then the other pages. After that we are looking to import all of our existing content into a new site.

Current Website

Our current website exists as a customized theme (X Theme) of WordPress. We are open to changing platforms, but only if that is determined to be the best option forward. While our website does have a lot of excellent content, we would like to update the overall look and navigation. We would like to keep the existing sections:
  • Events (divided into Passport sales, Winter Festival, Summer Festival, Monthly Series and past events)
  • About Us (Staff, contributors, Board, supporters, policies, contact info)
  • Community (blog, interviews, artist directory, volunteer link, friends page)
  • Media (mostly embedded videos)

New Website

We are looking for an updated look and feel for the website, as well as simplified navigation. Some of our existing links and pages could be consolidated and the navigation cleaned up.

Requirements

  • Landing page that easily directs to all sections, displays current events and current news.
  • Keep the current sections generally: Events, About, Community, Media.
  • Clean look and layout
  • Staff able to easily update the site
  • Easy and fast navigation
  • Everything in a page visible in one page, no scrolling needed (see current home page)
  • Eventually also bring in the material from original website and digitization/archiving efforts, have it so staff can add that over time
  • Site is mobile friendly
  • Ability to track SEO, Google Analytics, keywords, metrics, FB pixels, etc
  • Ability to add future sections (eg. Incubator) or sub-sections (eg. adding History page to About page)
  • Mailchimp integration or newsletter signup
  • Https security
  • Embedded Spotify playlists, YouTube videos.
  • Make action items more obvious & easy to find (eg. newsletter sign-up, artist submission, online store)
  • Would like to maintain our current newsletter signup link, artist submission link and music link to Spotify
  • We currently sell products online. This RFP does not cover our e-commerce functionality, which will currently be hosted on a separate platform, but the promotional site must connect.
  • This project is work for hire. We require the ability to be provided with full access and ownership to the code, creative, and all media included.

Things to Avoid

  • No redundant pages or multiple versions of links (see current events landing page)
  • Sliders or carousels of images
  • Auto-playing of music or videos
  • Loading or opening animations
  • No proprietary plugins/software that only the developer can update or use
  • Flash

Challenges

  • Large amount of data (images, posts) to move
  • Not sure if we’re locked into using WordPress or how viable it is to move to another platform
  • Staff are tech savvy but not coders or developers
  • Current third-party plugins and add-ons existing on the site

Requirements:

Experienced WordPress developer (see "How to Apply" section below for submission requirements)
