Job Description:

The Amadeus Choir is seeking a dynamic and experienced arts administrator to join our team as Managing Director. This role is flexible in both scope (20–30 hours/week) and structure — we’re looking for the right person to lead, and will tailor staff and volunteer support to complement their strengths.

We operate with a small team who are passionate about the way choral music brings people together. The Managing Director (MD) leads the administration of the Choir, setting direction for day-to-day management, fundraising, and — in collaboration with the Artistic Team — concert production and educational outreach. The MD works closely with the Board Executive to shape organizational strategy, strengthen community relationships, and support long-term growth.

A public-facing role, the MD represents the Choir at concerts and community events and helps foster our culture of collaboration. This includes inspiring volunteers and working alongside all members of the organization to bring the artistic vision to life. Reporting to the Board Executive, the MD works in close partnership with the Artistic Director, staff, and volunteers to ensure all operations align with the Choir’s mission, artistic goals, and strategic priorities.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to be a leader in a small not-for-profit context, to inspire and motivate a team of volunteers, to remain calm and kind under pressure, and to use technology with ease. This position requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for the arts.

The successful candidate must attend choir rehearsals and events, including weekly Tuesday evening rehearsals September–June (Lawrence/DVP area). The Choir offers flexible and remote working hours, with on-site requirements during production periods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the organization’s strategic plan and ensure it is executed effectively
  • Recruit, motivate and manage volunteers (including choir members, students, and other community members)
  • Attend regular meetings with Board Executive, and report at full Board meetings on current activities and future planning
  • Manage day-to-day operations, resource allocation, and workflows
  • Oversee planning for all concerts, fundraising events, educational workshops, guest appearances, podcasts, and other events
  • Manage choir membership, including member auditions, registration, and communication
  • Lead development efforts including grant writing, foundation relations, and donor stewardship
  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director and Marketing Consultant to shape and implement the season marketing plan
