Buddies in Bad Times, known to friends as Buddies, is a queer organization: for us queerness is a political/aesthetic orientation, more than (just) an identitarian subcategory, our queerness is oppositional, disobedient, and centres and celebrates otherness and radical outsiders.

ROLE:

The Marketing Manager is essential to shaping Buddies’ unruly queer public identity, and designing and implementing the experience of those who enter Buddies. From someone’s first encounter with our marketing online, to seeing a show, or hanging out Tallulah’s, this role will support them in experiencing what it is to be a part of Buddies. Reporting to the Artistic Director, you’ll be a leading collaborator in shaping Buddies’ identity in the city and beyond, measuring it with digital trends, and supporting media relationships.  We’re looking for someone who’s thirsty to work with data and has the creative audacity to tell the story of our sexy, transgressive, queer work and gather a crowd around it. This role reports to the Artistic Director and works closely with the Producer. This role also supervises the Social Media Coordinator and Hosting Leads.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Strategy Development and Execution: Work collaboratively to strategize, develop, and execute integrated marketing strategies that align with the artistic direction and organizational objectives. Proactively manage timelines and budgets for all marketing campaigns.
  • Digital Marketing and Social Media Management: Lead and innovate Buddies’ web presence, ensuring dynamic and engaging content across websites, event listings, blogs, and social media channels. Monitor digital marketing trends and adapt strategies to maintain a cutting-edge approach. Overseeing the work of the Social Media Coordinator.
  • Creative Material Design and Production: Oversee and guide the design and production of advertising, brochures, and collateral material for various departments. Supervise graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and other creative professionals to produce compelling marketing content.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Provide strategic communications counsel to all departments, ensuring consistency and quality in materials and messages, whether print, oral, or digital. Work closely with the Artistic Director and Producer to ensure the marketing materials reflect the artistic vision.
  • Ticket Sales Management and Data Analysis: Innovate and develop marketing research tools to gather insights into audience behaviors and preferences. Prepare and oversee weekly ticketing reports, analyzing sales trends to optimize marketing strategies. Manage targeted ticket offers, promotions, and giveaways to engage diverse communities.
  • Sponsorships and Partnership Management: In collaboration with the Producer, cultivate and solicit corporate sponsors, developing partnerships that provide mutual benefits. Ensure the fulfillment of sponsorship agreements, including logo placement and public recognition.
  • Advertising and Media Relations: Identify new advertising opportunities and negotiate placements and pricing. Collaborate with the Publicist to manage media relations, ensuring a comprehensive approach to media invites and engagement.
  • Event and Campaign Monitoring: Lead the monitoring and reporting on all marketing events and campaigns, adjusting strategies based on performance data and audience feedback.
  • Community Engagement: Actively participate in community events and forums to promote Buddies’ presence and engagement with various stakeholders.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Experienced in marketing management, preferably in the arts or non-profit sector.
  • Proficient in digital marketing and social media strategy.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communicator with a collaborative spirit.
  • Passionate about promoting queer voices and stories.
