Description
We are seeking an experienced Art Handler / Gallery Assistant to join our team.
This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the professional handling, transportation, and installation of diverse artworks and maintaining the gallery’s appearance for exhibitions.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in art handling, a meticulous eye for detail, and excellent communication skills to engage effectively with clients.
Key Responsibilities:

Art Handling & Transportation:
- Safely pack, transport, and install various art objects, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative in homes, offices, and galleries.
- Conduct detailed planning for logistical challenges, including navigating narrow doorways, staircases, and loading docks.
- Deliver artworks to external vendors such as framers and restorers, ensuring deadlines are met.

Gallery Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance, including painting, minor repairs, and organizing inventory.
- Keep gallery storage areas tidy and ensure accurate documentation of inventory against electronic records.
- Prepare and set up gallery spaces for exhibitions, including artwork arrangement, furniture placement, and lighting setup.

Client Services:
- Assist clients during gallery visits with professional and courteous communication.

Special Projects & Freelance Duties:
- Support exhibition preparation by hanging artworks, placing pedestals, and solving installation challenges
- Coordinate cross-border transport of artworks and assist with commercial border crossings when needed.

Pay and Benefits
Hourly rate range:
$30.00 — $45.00 per hour
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid G Class driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Valid passport for travel.
- Proficiency in general maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, reframing, and painting.
- Strong communication skills with a focus on professionalism and client relations
- Ability to manage time effectively in fast-paced environments, meeting tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in art handling, packing, and installation, particularly for auction houses or galleries.
- Basic knowledge of Indigenous art.
- Experience with professional photography and videography is an asset.
