Description
The LAC is seeking a qualified art enthusiast who thrives in a creative and community-based work environment. The Curatorial Assistant is tasked with the essential role of developing and supporting the delivery of exhibitions and related programs. Working alongside the Director/Curator and other team members, the Curatorial Assistant will assist to cultivate activities and programs which support the LAC’s mission, strategic plan and funding strategies. Through the development of robust funding and programming, the Curatorial Assistant will aid in outreach initiatives, networking, partnership building to attracting visitors and enrich experiences.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of exhibition and programming which aligns with the Ontario Arts Council priorities, local priorities and the strategic plan of the SEAA/LAC.
• Seek out grants, sponsorship, donor and funding opportunities – preparing grant applications, reporting on grants and sponsorship proposals to support exhibitions, programs and operations.
• Provides key input into the annual exhibit and programming schedule and strategies for 2026 and beyond.
• Assist in the day-to-day operations
• Assist with writing exhibition texts, didactics, and other interpretive materials.
• Prepares instructions and training to gallery attendants and volunteers.
• Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, artists, volunteers, and the public
• Assist in day-to-day operations of gallery; visitor services, sales, gallery receptions and event set up and planning, clerical and administration duties as required.
• Builds and maintains artist, member, donor, collections, program participant, inventory and communication records and databases.
• Analyze data on exhibitions, programs and visitors to prepare effective reports.
• Attend meetings and functions representing the LAC as required.
• Assist with marketing and advertising strategies and delivery, use traditional media and social media to enhance SEAA/LAC’s visibility and status within the community.
• Assist with financial data entry, bookkeeping and other financial duties as required.

Hourly rate range:
$22.00 — $22.00 per hour
Benefits:
50% off art supplies, framing, merchandise and non-alcoholic beverages. 4% vacation pay.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications and Experience:
• MUST have 4+ years experience in community or traditional
educational settings in line with this role, and/or degree or diploma in
related field of study such as, but not limited to: BA, MA, BFA, MFA,
curatorial studies.
• MUST have a proven track record in grant writing, grant reporting and
specifically Ontario Arts Council Public Art Gallery Operating Grants.
• Experience with preparing exhibition and project grants relating arts and culture.
• Understanding and working knowledge of gallery contracts, bookings, processing invoices and purchase orders, communicating with marketing and overseeing design of materials: posters, invitations, newspaper articles, brochures and online visuals
• Experience with developing exhibitions and an understanding of art practices and regional and international artists
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
• Experience using permanent collection database (knowledge of Excel and Photoshop), library database (books, magazines and publications) or other similar programs
• Knowledge of gallery schedule, art history, and experience with developing public programming
• Familiarity with contemporary and historical art in Canada, especially within regional or community contexts.
• Knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Akimbo, OAAG
• Smart serve certification is an asset
• High level of positive energy, initiative, independence and ability work with minimal supervision; displays professional, productive and accurate workmanship and organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
• High degree of computer literacy, including MS Office and social media expertise; experience in graphics applications, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator as well as CRM and CMS software are an asset.
• Bookkeeping and financial experience an asset.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada; have an appreciation for the arts and working with the community.
• Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with
vulnerable persons.)
