Introducing the National Arts Centre
The National Arts Centre (NAC) is Canada’s bilingual, multi-disciplinary home for the
performing arts. The NAC presents, creates, produces, and co-produces performing
arts programming in various streams—the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre,
French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and Popular Music and Variety—and nurtures the
next generation of audiences and artists from across Canada. The NAC is located on
the traditional, unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation.
At the National Arts Centre, we believe the performing arts are vital to the human
experience. A house of dreams for the Canadian performing arts, we work with artists
and arts organizations from across this land to revitalize our sector.

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Accessibility
We are on a journey, committed to ensuring that equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility,
anti-racism and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples will guide our actions.
The NAC welcomes applications from candidates who can help us meet our vision, and
contribute to the diversity of lived experiences, perspectives, and approaches. When
you join the NAC, you will be part of an inclusive community working hard to dismantle
barriers to employees’ well-being, access, potential, and success. The NAC actively
seeks candidates who identify as women, Indigenous, Black, Persons of Colour
(IBPoC), members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and people with disabilities. We
encourage you to self-identify in the recruitment process.

Key activities:
The National Arts Centre French Theatre is seeking a new Associate Director for its
children’s and youth programming.

The Associate Director will work closely with French Theatre’s Artistic Director,
Mani Soleymanlou, to define and develop the artistic vision for the NAC’s programming
and projects for children and young people, and to create a program of shows and
activities that reflects that vision.

They will bring to French Theatre and the NAC an in-depth knowledge of theatre for
young audiences, and will maintain close ties with French-language artists and theatres
in Quebec, across Canada and abroad.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication and teamwork skills in order to build solid relationships with numerous colleagues, partners and associates, as well as with children, families and various stakeholders in the school environment.
• Support the National Arts Centre’s strategic planning objectives and help determine French Theatre’s

key orientations;
• Develop and maintain relationships with the relevant audiences in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, i.e., families, schools and institutions, while keeping in mind the NAC’s national mandate;
• Act as a liaison between French Theatre and artists and companies that specialize in or have a strong interest in creating works for young audiences;
• Follow visiting artists and companies as they carry out their projects and welcome them to French Theatre, which involves attending performances for all types of audiences and participating in artistic mediation activities;
• Develop the partnerships needed to roll out and implement the programming;
• Participate in festivals, conferences, committees and other activities within the local and national theatre and arts communities;
• Contribute to the development of the brand image of French Theatre’s season campaigns and related communications tools.
