About Reelworld: Now in its 24th year Reelworld Screen Institute, Reelworld Film Festival and Reelworld Foundation are dedicated to promoting racial equity in the Canadian audiovisual production sector. Our mission is to create a more inclusive industry by providing opportunities and support to Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities. This is a demanding job and we seek a hard-working, dynamic and experienced Managing Director to join our team and drive our mission forward.
Position Overview: The Managing Director (MD) will oversee the day-to-day operations and overall performance of Reelworld Screen Institute, Reelworld Film Festival and Reelworld Foundation. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the MD will be responsible for ensuring the organization’s productivity and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate must be based in Toronto and have significant experience in the film industry, strong relationships with Canadian screen industry executives, funders, government agencies, officials, proven management capabilities, and a strong track record of driving revenue growth and securing sponsorships. Successful candidate must be willing to travel nationally and internationally as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership: Ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations across the organization and act as a liaison between the Executive Director and other staff to streamline communication, ensuring alignment and efficiency.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
- Revenue Generation: Identify and secure funding opportunities, including sponsorships, grants, and partnerships.
- Sales and Sponsorship: Act as the primary salesperson for Reelworld, building and maintaining relationships with sponsors and donors.
- Project Management: Oversee project planning, execution, and evaluation to ensure successful delivery of programs and initiatives.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Decision-Making: Working in partnership with the ED to make final decisions on key operational and strategic issues, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and vision.
- Board Governance: Working with the ED and Board of Directors to take the organization to the next level of evolution and growth.
- Representation: Act as an ambassador for Reelworld, effectively communicating our mission and achievements to stakeholders, partners, and the public.

Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Qualifications:
- A Degree in a relevant discipline Business, Marketing, Project Management, Finance, HR.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior executive role within the film industry.
- Revenue Generation: Proven track record of securing $1 million plus in funding, sponsorships, and partnerships in the arts or film sector.
- Project Management: Strong project management skills with experience overseeing complex projects from inception to completion.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the film industry, including trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Sales Acumen: Ability to effectively sell Reelworld’s vision and programs to potential sponsors and partners.
- Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to make informed decisions and drive organizational success.
- Technical Skills: Experience with the use of Salesforce.
- Data Management: Creating and tracking KPIs and data for the organization.
- Communication: Strong English verbal and written communication skills, with French verbal and written an asset.
- Networking: Ability to build and maintain professional relationships within the industry.
- Adaptability: Capacity to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving work environment.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in Operations and Marketing an asset.
- Bilingual French and English an asset.
