The Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) enriches the human experience by teaching, creating and performing outstanding dance. Founded in 1939, RWB is the longest continuously operating ballet company in North America. The RWB is a leader, renowned for classical ballet and for pushing the boundaries of dance, including through the prestigious RWB School and its Professional and Recreational divisions. The vibrant dance company’s international reputation is built on a history of celebrated tours, having performed in 44 countries and close to 600 cities. The Artistic Director is the inspirational leader of the company and the school, providing creative leadership and a compelling vision for the future of the RWB, aligned with its multi-year strategy. The Artistic Director advances the organization artistically in programming, performance, and pedagogy, ensuring technical excellence, promoting virtuosic versatility, and advancing the organization’s commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. A talented communicator and relationship builder, the Artistic Director will be an ambassador to the public, government, business, community, and arts leaders, subscribers, patrons, donors, volunteers, the media, and the national and international dance communities.

Reporting to a dedicated Board of Directors, the Artistic Director will collaborate effectively and collegially with the RWB’s talented Executive Director to build audience engagement and to realize artistic and strategic goals. As co-leaders, the Artistic Director and Executive Director share responsibility for building upon the RWB’s storied history, enhancing its national and international reputation, and nurturing a healthy organizational culture through open communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the highest levels of artistic excellence and success.
