Contract
Commencing end of August 2025
($39,000 – $40,000/year)

Note: Apartment and meals are provided as part of the compensation package.

The Bishop Strachan School (‘BSS’) has been a leader in girls’ education since 1867. Boarding at BSS offers girls in Grades 8 to 12 a unique opportunity for growth and learning in a supportive environment where they reside on campus, enjoying convenient access to school facilities. Recognizing the significant step of leaving home, we prioritize support to ease the transition, fostering a warm and encouraging atmosphere. Boarding fosters self-reliance, self-awareness, and leadership skills, enhancing both academic success and personal development. Our dedicated Boarding Advisors ensure a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment while supporting students in building confidence and resilience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Remains flexible and supports the boarding program through various responsibilities, including office shifts, safety and attendance rounds, supervision of meals and activities, running daily programming, supporting student committees and events
  • Expertly advises, supports, mentors and empowers boarders assigned to their family and advisor group, building meaningful relationships with their parents, teachers, and counselors
  • Overseeing meals, bed times and room tidiness within the Boarding house as well as following precise lock-up procedures for the Boarding house each night, and operating alarms. 
  • Monitors and supports students’ academic, social, physical and emotional progress in an effective, non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to student diversity in the school community which promotes and preserves student and family autonomy, dignity, and rights 
  • Proactively communicates with parents and guardians to build supportive and trusting partnerships
  • Ensures the Boarding Code of Conduct is familiar to students and staff, and when needed handles major and minor discipline issues, health issues, and other student concerns 

Living in Boarding at BSS:

  • The apartment and meals are provided as part of the compensation package
  • Live in boarding full-time from the end of August until the end of School year (end of June)
  • Includes a furnished apartment (suitable for one person only) within the Boarding School. Pets are also not permitted
  • The schedule, prepared by the Dean of Boarding, is composed of various day/evening/overnight and weekend shifts
  • Extensive health and dental benefits package
  • Administration contributes to our robust Pension Plan which is up to 8% match.
  • Use of on-site fitness center and pool

Who You Are:

  • Relevant experience working with adolescents including living/working in a residential or camping environment
  • University degree/college diploma in a related area of discipline i.e. Child and Youth Studies, Education or Social Work 
  • Understanding of the developmental stages of adolescent including their health and wellness needs
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, Red Cross/LSS and NLS certifications are an asset
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, judgment and decision making ability
