The Corporation of Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall is a charitable non-profit organization that owns and operates two of Canada’s most iconic concert halls. Massey Hall has successfully completed an extensive renovation and expansion of the venue, this includes a revitalized Allan Slaight Auditorium, improved amenities for both artists and patrons, and opening of new venues as part of Allied Music Centre, starting with TD Music Hall, and state-of-the-art Deane Cameron Recording Studio. Roy Thomson Hall serves as the home to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, welcomes the Toronto International Film Festival’s red carpet gala premieres, and plays host to a dynamic array of cultural events throughout the year. The Corporation is actively engaged in Artist Development and Education & Community Engagement initiatives as an investment in the next generation of artists and audiences.

The Opportunity

As the Education & Community Engagement Associate, you will be a key member of our Education team, helping engage new audiences and introduce youth to professional musical experiences. Reporting to the Director, you will coordinate school programs, collaborating with teachers, teaching artists, and internal teams to create impactful, curriculum-aligned experiences. You will also support program expansion across the GTA, with a focus on priority neighborhoods, and in collaboration with the broader Education team, assist with adult, youth, community engagement, and other programs as needed.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate School Programs: Lead and manage a range of school-focused initiatives, including Share the MusicCollaborationsSHSM Workshops, and Venue Tours.
  • Manage Budget & Relationships: Ensure programs stay within budget while maintaining strong relationships with schools, teachers, and artists. Proactively promote programs and respond to inquiries.
  • Create Engaging Content: Develop and write teacher resources, adapt existing programs, and explore new opportunities to grow our school initiatives.
  • Program Development and Expansion: Work with the Director to adapt and develop programs that respond to the community’s evolving needs, while expanding their reach across the GTA, with a focus on priority neighborhoods.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Partner with internal teams on marketing, event planning, ticketing, and reporting, ensuring smooth execution of all programs.
  • Supervision & Support: Hire, train, and manage teaching artists, and supervise programming at venues and schools as needed.
  • On-Site & Travel: Occasionally travel to venues and schools to oversee program delivery and be available for evening and weekend events.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a related position in a non-profit or education setting working with diverse communities
  • University degree in arts administration, education, or a related field (or a combination of education and experience)
  • Demonstrated dedication to inclusivity and equity in program development and administration
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven diplomacy and tact when working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage time, set priorities, and meet competing deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven track record of accuracy
  • Proven ability to manage events and organize schedules
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Knowledge of and passion for the arts especially music from a wide variety of genres and cultures
  • Successful criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening required upon hiring
  • Experience with a ticketing system, such as Tessitura, is a plus
  • Experience with databases and online forms, both creation and management
