The Jackson Park Project
Description
We are excited to announce that we are actively looking for dynamic Board of Director candidates. Elected candidates would serve for a two-year term. We are particularly interested in candidates who enhance the Board’s existing strengths with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Legal
- Fund Development
- Financial (Accounting)
The Jackson Park Project is a not for profit corporation created to explore, memorialize, and celebrate the history of the Emancipation Day celebrations that took place in Windsor, Ontario. Our mission is to develop a historical drama for television and documentary, supported by the creation of educational resources for the classroom and a digital archive that acts as a repository of this valuable historical information for the public. We further aim to encourage ongoing conversations about these celebrations, and their place within the larger landscape of Canadian history.
We are looking for volunteer Board of Directors (prior Board experience is an asset) and also have experience with:
- Non-profit grassroots organizations
- A commitment to equity and advancing social change
- Experience in the entertainment industry (film & television)
- Business connections, Greater Toronto Area
Board of Director Role
The Board of Directors should be ready to commit to 4 board meetings per year in addition to participation in sub-committee work as needed. The total time commitment will be approximately 2-5 hours per month. Board of Directors will complete the following:
- Serve on at least one committee, and to actively participate in meetings of the committee.
- Maintain current knowledge of programs/activities and projects
- Maintain the confidentiality of any information given to the Board of Directors
- Work within the policy framework established by the Board of Directors
- Serve as an advocate of the organization
- To represent and promote JPP
- Attend events where possible as a representative of JPP
- To work in collaboration with Community Stakeholders
- Fulfill commitments within the agreed upon deadlines
- Be accessible to members, staff and directors as needed
- Attend all regular and special board meetings and participate in proceedings
- Provide a written report for the board meetings
