What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Associate Director, Operations of the Glenn Gould School (“GGS”), the General Manager, ARC Ensemble is responsible for overseeing and executing the day-to-day functions of the ARC Ensemble, as well as coordinating and engaging external performance engagements and tours. The incumbent of this position also serves as a strategic advisor to the Artistic Director of the ARC Ensemble regarding the budget, marketing and communications, and the general management of individual artists.
This role is the main contact with internal and external stakeholders, including donors and patrons.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Acts as a liaison between the RCM and the Artistic Director regarding implementation of the mission and vision of the RCM’s Ensemble in Residence, with support from the President’s Office.
- Schedules rehearsals, recordings and performances; liaising with ARC Ensemble members, guest musicians and internal RCM stakeholders to secure rehearsal times, spaces/venues and technical requirements.
- Books travel and accommodation for national and international touring.
- Assists the Artistic Director with both artistic and strategic planning on a 3-year term.
- Plans and facilitates the logistics for the production of 2 annual ARC Ensemble concerts in the Mazzoleni Masters concert series.
- Supports the Artistic Director with outreach to secure local and international performance dates, including contracting and fee negotiation.
- Monitors inbox and correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
- Manages the website and social media channels of the ARC Ensemble in collaboration with its Artistic Director to support the promotion, activities and projects of both the ensemble as a whole and its members, inclusive of content creation and planning.
- Collaborates with the Marketing department to develop and realize ARC’s communications plan for each season, and to capture requisite imagery, audio and video assets.
- Researches and follows up on potential engagements with series and festival presenters.
- Inputs and oversees budgets (both annual and project) in collaboration with ARC’s Artistic Director, and processes expenses and invoices to Accounts Payable.
- Collaborates with the Development team, RCM Board Members and ARC’s Artistic Director to identify and develop potential funding and sponsorship opportunities.
- Supports integration of ARC and RCM projects in consultation with ARC’s Artistic Director and the GGS Associate Dean.
- Acts as a liaison for the inclusion of GGS students and Rebanks Fellows in ARC’s performances and recordings.
- Supports the Artistic Director by providing input/draft/review news and PR releases.
- Researches, drafts, and prepares fundraising proposals and grant applications for touring, performance and recording opportunities as required.
- Handles the submissions process for ARC recordings to be considered for potential GRAMMY and Juno award nominations.
- Performs other duties as required.

What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field plus a minimum of 3 years of performing arts administration and/or management experience in the arts and culture/performance sector.
- Exceptional communication skills (both verbal & written) with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, demonstrating tact and diplomacy at all times.
- Demonstrated ease and comfort in meeting and working with visiting personalities, professionals in the industry (i.e., designers, music-presenters, publishers, agents, producers, etc.), sponsors, recording and broadcast companies, film distributors, and government agencies.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, effectively manages competing priorities and deadlines.
- Possesses solid analytical and research skills.
- High degree of initiative and the ability to solve problems.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated experience with various social media platforms.
- A part-time, 12-month contract, working approximately 25 hours on a weekly basis.
- Availability to support events during evenings and weekends is required.
- Some involvement to work at off-site performances as well as in-house events as required.
