Entering its 47th year, the Toronto Children’s Chorus (TCC) is a vibrant musical community that has been nurturing young voices for generations. Through exceptional choral training and performance experiences, we inspire growth, teamwork, and artistic excellence. We foster collaboration, peer leadership, self-discipline, creativity, and a lifelong passion for music. Under Artistic Director, Zimfira Poloz, TCC continues to build its successful tradition of providing unparalleled choral music education to over 300 young singers in the Greater Toronto Area.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Development & Communications oversees the organization’s fundraising, marketing and communications and will identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities.

The position will be responsible for building a diversified funding and revenue portfolio and for creating and completing the organization’s fundraising campaigns and events throughout the year. In addition, the role will champion the development and promotion of a strong, cohesive, and effective brand identity, utilizing a communication plan to raise the profile of the charity and increase our image and awareness in the marketplace.

The incumbent will work closely with staff and volunteers to capitalize on the campaigns along with the established sponsorships and with our long-term partnerships. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development & Communications will spearhead the collaboration work on the annual goals.

Strategic Partnership Growth and Development

  • Develop overarching objectives and strategies for current and future development opportunities
  • Develop and activate a cohesive plan to attract new sponsors and partners
  • Proactively seek out opportunities to leverage existing partnerships to identify new opportunities and potential revenue streams
  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to government agencies, foundations, and other funding bodies. Manage grant reporting requirements and ensure compliance with grant agreements.
  • Recommend, establish, and implement a donor-and-sponsor recognition program
  • Represent the organization at events and press conferences

Communications

  • Develop and implement a unified branding plan to enhance the TCC’s professional credibility and sophistication, positioning the organization for new and unparalleled revenue opportunities.
  • Provide leadership for communications strategies to elevate the organization’s profile and support TCC’s business development and fundraising efforts
  • Determine strategic communication campaigns to advance TCC’s strategic goals, special projects, and revenue campaigns
  • Oversee consistent messaging across all communication materials and platforms
  • Create and oversee the production of newsletters and reports
  • Research and evaluate marketing and promotional opportunities
  • Manage content and all content-related projects, including writing, editing, and proofreading optimized content, including website, campaign materials, reports, email communications, video scripts, print and digital advertisements, stories, and donor materials
  • Liaise with program staff to create compelling and impactful stories which will generate new donors, solicit new volunteers and recruit new choristers into the organization
  • Utilize talents and vision to revamp current initiatives such as Sing Loo & Holiday Harvest

Financial Planning and Budget Management

  • Develop and track proactive budgets to align with all major fundraising initiatives
  • Create a sophisticated income and expenditure tracking and evaluation system
  • Maintain clear communication with Finance Department to ensure transparency and understanding on all projects
  • Attend Finance Committee meetings to report and give advice on fundraising matters
