Description

WALL SPACE is currently hiring for the position of Art Gallery Curator/Director.

The ideal candidate must have a background in art, with 1 – 2 years experience in managing a team. They possess a strong willingness to uplift the gallery’s represented artists, work closely with and build relationships with clients, have a strong work ethic and willingness to take on a wide range of tasks as required. This is a full-time position.

What We Are Looking For

A friendly, dynamic and flexible personality with excellent communication skills
Excellent sales skills
Education or background/training in the fine arts (MA or BA in Art History, BFA, Museum Studies, gallery experience or other relevant experience)
Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and problem solve
Exceptional time-management skills
The ability to establish a rapport with clients and provide exceptional customer service
A good sense of colour/design principles
Excellent writing and proofreading skills, with the ability to take on the appropriate tone for different audiences and media
The ability to stand or sit for long periods, climb ladders and lift heavy artwork
The ability to work some evenings and most Saturdays
Valid driver’s license and access to a car considered an asset
Fluency in French considered an asset

Role Description

Building strong collector relationships and working directly with clients to help them find the right artworks for their home/collection
Facilitating gallery outreach through networking opportunities and building relationships with media outlets
Handling exhibition press releases and marketing plans
Corresponding with and maintaining relationships with artists
Staying current with the gallery’s represented artists and practices
Managing gallery inventory and making sure all staff are trained accordingly
Overseeing the proper care and handling of artworks in inventory,
Grant writing, award applications, and letters of nomination/recommendation for gallery artists
