2023 Year in Review and Holiday Hours

The Work in Culture team wishes you a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!

Please note that our office will be closed for the holidays from December 23 to January 7, reopening on Monday, January 8, 2024.

Due to our holiday closure, the main office email will only be monitored occasionally and delayed responses can be expected regarding questions about the Work in Culture website as well as job postings and career development opportunities on the Job Board. To avoid any issues during the closure, we encourage posters to schedule their opportunities before the office closes.

We look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Here for you,
WIC Team

2023: A Year In Review

by Diane Davy, Executive Director of Work in Culture

2023 has been quite the year for Work in Culture! We celebrated our 25th anniversary — a major milestone! — as well as launched a new website, refreshed our brand, completed a multi-year skills training program in Windsor-Essex, and piloted a brand-new program in the GTA for newcomer artists and arts workers.

Thank you to our funders the Ontario Arts Council, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the Canada Council for their support — in the past five years alone, Work in Culture has been able to deliver over 250 individual training events, reach over 65 communities across Ontario (virtual and in-person), and serve over 5,500+ participants.

Delivering career skills development for artists, creatives, and cultural workers is a key part of what we do, and 2023 was no exception. We completed the final two cohorts of Growing Creative Careers training for artists and arts workers in Windsor and region, as well as delivered a brand-new program, Working in the Arts for Newcomers, which created and shared career resources and pathways for newcomer artists and arts workers in the GTA.

A huge thank you to our partners the Arts Council Windsor & Region, Windsor-Essex Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre, Airsa, Immigrant Writers Association, Institute for Creative Exchange, Paralia, and TRIEC for helping us develop and deliver these programs.

We also partnered with the Brampton Arts Organization to deliver a marketing intensive to their community of creative businesses and arts organizations, as well as a mentorship program that offered targeted mentorship on marketing, strategic planning, or business development challenges. Earlier in the year, we partnered with the Dancer Transition Resource Centre on a nationwide training program for dancers to help build their own career marketing strategies.

I am proud to lead a team that really believes in serving the creative community and responding to its needs, and we look forward to being here for you again in 2024. We have some special programming planned in celebration of our 25th year that we can’t wait to share with you!

In the meantime, we hope you’re enjoying the new Work in Culture website and Job Board, and we’ll see you soon in 2024!
