Belleville Downtown DocFest is a volunteer-run-not-for-profit collective that organizes an annual documentary film festival which is held on the first weekend in March.

Job Description

Belleville Downtown DocFest Organizing Committee is seeking a confident, technically proficient and experienced coordinator to manage all aspects of DocFest, particularly the website, printed and on-line program, marketing and sponsorship. This is a part-time contract position with a flexible work cycle. Ideally we are looking for someone to spend two or three days a week in Belleville between January and mid-March, and the entire week of the festival (Monday February 26 - Sunday March 4, 2018). The committee can offer free accommodation if needed.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing/updating the DocFest website;
  • Working with the sponsorship sub-committee to provide info packages to potential sponsors, confirm sponsorships, keep confirmed sponsors fully informed/updated of related festival details, track and collect sponsorship donations;
  • Maintaining an active Social Media presence for DocFest;
  • Assisting with writing and distribution of media releases; *
  • Managing all aspects of the printed program (advertising, layout, articles, print and distribution);
  • Liaising with downtown businesses and Belleville Downtown Improvement Association (BDIA) to promote DocFest;
  • Assisting with print traffic;
  • Liaising with graphic designer re planning and production of print promotional materials (rack cards, Festival Passes, programs, posters, etc)
  • Assisting as needed with ad design, signage, posters, etc;
  • Liaising with Loyalist College student screening event;
  • Strengthening connections with local hearing-impaired and Indigenous communities;
  • Assisting with technical set-up (sound and projection) in screening rooms;
  • Assisting with grant applications;
  • Writing a wrap-up report for 2018. This report should summarize the activities of the position and make recommendations for the following year;
  • Other duties as requested by the DocFest Organizing Committee;


Requirements:

  • University or college degree/diploma or equivalent with experience in event management and a demonstrated interest in film;
  • Previous event or festival experience preferred;
  • Experience with content management systems such as Word Press, source code and slugs; *
  • Proven project management experience, including a track record of delivering complex projects on time and on budget; *
  • Graphic design knowledge and experience an asset;
  • Excellent written and communication skills;
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills with a high level of attention to detail;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and to prioritize tasks; *
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn;
  • A mature, confident team player who is able to maintain a sense of humour in a fast-paced environment;
  • Must have full availability for entire DocFest week (February 26 – March 4, 2018);
  • Future availability for DocFest would be an asset as this could become a full time job in two or three years;

The DocFest Organizing Committee is a volunteer-run-not-for-profit collective that organizes an annual documentary film festival. The 7th  annual Belleville Downtown DocFest will take place March 2 – 4, 2018. DocFest features a Friday night Opening Gala film preceded by a Green Carpet Reception and followed by a live musical performance. 50 films are shown on five screens at four venues over the three-day event. 700 Festival Passes are sold with a cumulative audience of approximately 4,500.
