Job Description

This is a full-time, one-year maternity leave contract position.

Reporting to the Executive & Artistic Director, the Program Director oversees VIBE Arts’ outreach-based multi-disciplinary arts education programs; program staff and artist roster. VIBE Arts Program Director is responsible for managing a wide range of arts programming that includes youth artist residencies, professional development Arts Education workshops for artists/arts community, school-based projects, community-based projects that take place in shelters,libraries, parks, public housing, hospitals, community arts festivals, youth-led arts projects and a mobile arts program.

Program Leadership and Management:

  • Oversee program ideation, development, implementation, forecasting and evaluation of VIBE Arts multi-disciplinary programming in collaboration with program team, community partners, and artists.
  • Responsible for a rollout of approx. 150 local, provincial and national programs per fiscal year in a variety of disciplines that include visual arts, dance, drama and music
  • Initiate and set goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization and funding requirements outlined in grants and proposals
    Liaise with community groups (i.e. schools, social agencies) and cultural agencies from the private, public and cultural sectors to effectively implement programs, forge new partnerships and strengthen existing community-based alliances
  • Conduct VIBE Arts’ program site visits across the GTA and attend our special events, exhibitions, unveilings, performances (this does include some evenings and weekends).
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies including conducting/managing vulnerable sector screening Police Checks, artist contracts, welcome packages
  • Oversee evaluation of programs to monitor performance including developing and analyzing evaluative materials (both qualitative and quantitative), collected from program participants, artist facilitators and community partners
  • Manage and coordinate the collection and archiving of Program Statistics, including compiling stats for reports and CADAC
  • Support resource development team to create program budgets
  • Oversee, approve and manage program budgets to ensure accountability and program success
  • Provide support/mentorship as needed to artists both professional and emerging in areas of lesson planning, artistic direction, resource sharing (in association with Mentorship Coordinator)
  • Apply change, risk, and resource management principles when needed
  • Supervise all contracted VIBE Arts’ artists/arts educators involved to provide ongoing support, feedback and resolve any arising issues
  • Oversee program team which includes: School and Community Program Coordinators, Outreach Coordinator, Program Logistics Manager (and Assistant), Special Projects Coordinator (as tasks relate to programming) and Mentorship Coordinator


Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience as a director of community arts/arts education programming
  • Post Secondary Degree in an arts field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). A post graduate degree in Arts Administration would be an asset.
  • Experience with program design, ideation, development, and evaluation
  • Familiarity with arts-based curriculum development & Anti-oppression ideology
  • Enthusiastic and committed to the development of the creative sector
  • Significant experience developing, leading and innovating successful strategic partnership development and management
  • A fast learner with the ability to meet ambitious targets
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience in practices of teaching
  • Exceptional project management/planning skills, handling multiple projects at once
  • Exceptional relationship management skills
  • Proven excellent oral and written communication skills; able to synthesize and communicate complex ideas
  • Highly organized, entrepreneurial, resourceful, collaborative, and possesses capacity for critical and creative thinking
  • Proficiency in MacOS


Additional Info:

  • Full-time work hours in an open-concept office environment with some site visits to outreach programs.
  • Monday-Friday work schedule with the occasional evenings and weekends (flex time is an option with approval from the Executive Director)
  • A Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check is required upon hire
  • A valid driver’s license is required
