Innovative Arts is a dramatic arts studio for youth in Oakville Ontario. Innovative produces high quality youth musical theatre productions, On-Camera short films and specialized educational oppourtunities for their students. 

Job Description

At Innovativr Arts, we call our Theatre Teachers "Cast Directors". The Cast Director is the leader of one or two cast(s) of our Musical production. Their job is to direct, teach, motivate, and inspire their performers.  Their goal is to have each and every member of their cast(s) end the program with greater artistic skill, self-confidence, and friendships than when they started. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare rehearsal space
  • Build a professional but personal relationship with each student understanding their strengths, and weaknesses to challenge them.
  • Help facilitate a seamless transition of students from one class to the next by knowing and communicating the daily rehearsal schedule.
  • Ensure the students trust and respect the director and senior team so that there is a smooth transition into the theatre.
  • Know material prior to rehearsal
  • Be prepared to adapt to schedule changes
  • Adapt to many skill levels and age groups
  • Check in with the Director, Music Director, and Choreographer for assistance and updates.
  • Being prepared to give students extra help before the official rehearsal start time when needed.
  • Positively address any behavior issues and escalate when needed.
  • Have each student understand their character and ensure memorization deadlines are upheld by each student.
  • Build confidence by reinforcing successful moments in each rehearsal
  • Instill a greater love and appreciation of the performing arts
  • Build a strong sense of self-worth and high personal goals and teamwork.



At least a secondary school education is required with post-secondary education being preferred.

Qualifications include:
  • Must have experience in Musical Theatre
  • Extensive training in all one or more discipline(s) of singing, dancing, and acting
  • Classroom management skills
  • Experience in live theatre 
  • Previous teaching experience or experience working with youth required

Working conditions

Rehearsals for Students begin in September and run until May. 
3 Weeks off for Winter Break, and 2 Weeks off for March Break.

Cast Directors can be well rounded triple threat teachers or can have one or two areas of expertise such as Drama or Music. 

Cast Directors must attend staff conference.  Staff conference is one week long prior to rehearsals.  Rehearsals run for 28 weeks with rehearsals two days a week.  Cast Directors are expected to arrive at 5:00pm for a meeting prior to the beginning of rehearsal.
